Hello, and thanks in advance for the help. I have a 2008 JK, 4”lift on 35’s and the steering suddenly became very stiff. I jacked it up and went through the normal inspection; ball joints, tie rods, pitman arm, stabilizers, ect Everything is in great shape. I just had the front end apart a couple weeks ago to install new axle u joints. Everything was inspected and greased at that time. Interestingly, when I turn the wheel with the front tires off the ground it is still very hard to turn. You can clearly feel and hear something like scraping or rubbing inside the column near the steering wheel. It’s definitely like inside the Jeep behind the wheel. Any ideas? Clockspring? Is there a bearing there at the tube? It is so difficult to turn that it is not drivable. Oh, and the steering wheel will not lock now with the key removed. May be related. Any help will be appreciated.
