Hello,

I have a 2010 Jk with 37's, I'm having a issue when I get about half ways up a mountain, I start smelling anti freeze, the temp gage moves a little but not much. What I would like to do is to replace the factory radiator fan and replace it with a heavy duty one. Does anyone know of a good after market HD fan?
Or any ideas please?

I have had a griffin radiator for my cj7 LT1 build and the first one i got was so badly damaged that i had to send it back.. The second one I got just by chance I put a flexible camera into the interior and found severe damage.. had I installed that radiator I would have most certainly had over heating issues. the third one and 4 months later I got a good radiator,,,
point to this is be cautious no matter who you go with..

I also have found that a lot are buying the misimoto radiator and either rebranding or selling it as a misimoto ..

I am looking for a radiator myself.. would certainly be interested in your opinion on which ever one you get..

For what it's worth , OP ; I am sure you've replaced the OEM , original radiator cap as it's basic " I smell coolant" troubleshooting 101.
I just wanted to make sure that you've taken into account the fact that at angles such-as those encountered when surmounting steeply pitched 'mountains' or climbs in the JK/JKU ( & depending upon the level of the HOAT coolant that's in the reservoir ) , the hot coolant in the tank will quite often use its overflow relief port and splash backwards and out of the coolant tank and land upon the hot differential, exhaust mani or downpipe or cat and cause you to smell it .
Even a 1/4 of a pint more coolant added can cause this. The fact you aren't seeing overheating + I've had this occur hundreds of times ( I run coolant level exactly between MIN and MAX levels and it stopped doing this ) made me feel this worth mentioning .

darn, Gunny. I did it again , didn't I? I can't help it...

OP, maybe update this with the resolution you come up with to help others when you solve the problem. Also, hit the Welcome Room and introduce yourself when you've time to do so . Welcome!

Yep you sure did. :surprise: I was going to write a nice response but then I remembered that we just did this scenario like two weeks ago.

I have a C & R Radiator and it's an excellent product. That think was packaged very well to protect it from shipping and was perfect when I received it. They do a lot of NASCAR builds.

I honestly read this and the first time - which I based my answer about the cap and the coolant level on - I swear I thought OP was asking about RADIATOR replacements, not fan.

Yeah I remember the Ron Davis radiator was around $1500.00 but i think it came with two Spal fans. These radiators are definitely not cheap and I was concerned the $300.00 ones wouldn't hold up. My AEV radiator never leaked and I still have it but I was looking for more cooling capability.

Brings up an interesting conversation:

1. what is the cost without the SPALs?
2. what is the cost of getting something like a Camaro SS fan set up? (I believe that is what Motech is recommending now)

I'm not sure. Originally I thought with two fans I would have one running all the time on the trail for some airflow and then both when the temp was 210*. That involved a controller and more cost. When I talked to the C&R folks at SEMA they said keep the Pentastar brushless fan as it was the best one they tested. I saw the Camaro fan on Motech's site and I think they were similar in price and would require a set up procedure for the fan to run. I think the airflow is similar but Camaro fan is a little more quiet. I'm old school and I would still prefer a belt driven fan for trail use and a more consistent temperature.
