New to the Jeep world, so be gentle with me lol. I've been reading a lot about the plastic bushings on the transfer case plastic cable bushings failing. I took the advice and bought 6 spare ones from a dealer here in Calgary. They said the never really heard of any problem and had not replaced any. They had to order them in for me. Got them in my glove box but don't really know how to replace them when they fail. Does anyone have a "How to Replace Them for Dummys" if I have a failure of one? Like a video or pictures. I crawled under my jeep and looked around for the cable but couldn't find it.

I just had to replace mine a few weeks ago. It came apart while I was in the back country of course.

The plastic bushing just slips in the loop of the cable and over the pin on the lever of the transfer case. You can put the bushing on one side really easy the hard part is getting the cable, pin, and bushing to all snap into place. I used a pair of channel locks to squeeze it together. Without the leverage of the pliers getting it to pop into place could be a pain.

It is good to know the same bushing is also on the other end of the cable and on both ends of the auto transmission cable (least I have heard this mine is a manual)

Pretty sure Advance Adapters makes a real upgrade for the cable. I think Goodygotacuda has it.
I do not actually. I basically ground down the factory bushing and put a cotter pin on my bracket 44,000 miles ago. Haven't had to look at it since.

the jk transfer case 4H and 4L selector like most has no shift synchros. Making it a habit to shift while slightly moving is the best free/staying clean advice anyone can give you.

If you have to force it in you are doing it wrong.

I know it’s old but , just to make sure , the bushing Goody mentioned grinding-down and then securing better via a cotter pin was the shifter attachement or the bracket on the transfer case end ?
The way it reads , it sound like he ground the part I have separated in the red line in this picture:

Tho’ if that’s what he meant , how did he get a cotter pin thru the little shit pin on the case shift lever ? No way to drill thru that pin. Thus, I wonder if he meant the transfer case bracket, maybe....
Is there a DIY write up I’m missing ?

I’m tryin to see if there’s a better diy for securing theshifter side ( I carry extra eclipse and bushings ) than the Advance Adapters kit that is a few hundred dollars.
Have trips comin up and being proactive , in case anyone wonders why I’m resurrecting the deadthreads here, heh.
thanx
