Comet Antenna RS-720 NMO-Type Hatch-trunk-Lip mount
I mounted it on the front of the hood passenger side. You could just as easy mount it on the side of the hood.

I decided to do a test build.
I bought some cheap materials 4x1, 1/2 plywood and some steel angle.
I was hoping to mock something up that would hold my weight, just to get a feel for how it's going to work out.
Well the test fit went good. I'm going to add a few more braces and take it out for a overnighter thanksgiving weekend.
I might have 50bucks in the platform.
I also bought to padding and carpet(no photos yet).

Just over 7ft long, 41 inches wide in the back 23inches up front.

1st solo trip: Platform worked great. More then enough room. The only thing it needs more padding.
Spent the night alone in Anza Borrego's Little Blair valley. Camp right next to a huge split rock. I parked in tight because i was expecting some strong winds. It was a little breezy all day until around 11:30 pm the winds picked up the funny thing was that the temp did to. The out side temp went up 10 degrees.
Packing needs improvement. I need shorter Boxes so i can pull them out without unzipping the rear window on my soft top.

1st camp site in little Blair Valley:

More then enough leg room

Lots of Head room:
