Re-mounting my Hutchinsons. Noticed there's some pretty significant pitting going on near the bead. I'm not sure why it's so worn here, I assume it's from being aired down and the rubber rubbing on the wheel with small movement.

What's going on here? Is this actually what the inside of cast aluminum looks like when you wear it down? Is it because I mounted with dish soap and it did this much corrosion damage? Maybe dirt getting caught in there and grinding the aluminum down? I don't see pitting like this anywhere else where there is exposed aluminum surface.

I guess it doesn't matter too much, I'm just curious what the explanation is.
