I put about 3-5 pumps in at each oil change and have been fine. You don't want too much in there or they are going to sling grease like there is no tomorrow. I would say if the previous owner took care of them you could just add a few pumps now and then continue to add a few pumps at each oil change.
RCV says 3 - 5 pumps every 6 months. It helps if you don't have center caps on your wheels, that way you don't have to take the wheels off to grease them.
If you don't know what the previous owner did as far as greasing them, I would load them up with grease. I let mine get away from me once and ended up putting about 10 to 15 pumps into them. I could feel the resistance build when it was full. You might want to try pumping until it starts to resist taking more grease.
RCV states that the axles come pre-greased and you need to add 3-5 pumps every 6 months or so. I would add 3-5 pumps now, just to be safe and use that as your starting point for regular maintenance.
