Anybody out there take off their AT shift handle yet? If so, how?

Step 1) Pull handle really, really hard straight up.
Step 2) Hit youself in the head with handle as it releases.
Step 3) Rub forehead vigorously with hand until pain subsides.

Sorry, couldn't resist, it was experience that made me say that:D
But really, I'm sure I read somewhere that it pulls straight off.
I know that's how you do it with the manual shift. It's pretty much the same with most push-on shift knobs. I put out my third eye with one once. ;)What does the push button on the auto shifter handle hook on to?
OK, try this link. They carry an aftermarket auto shifter, an email to them on how to install it should do the trick.
On every other auto shift knob I've seen, the button mechanism is self contained within the knob. It actuates another mechanism that is separate in the shifter shaft. There should be no direct connection between the two.

Same way as my old Cherokee...only I didn't hit my head. I always like to skip steps.
The AT shift knob doesnt just pull off like the stick shifts!
There is a torx screw under the bottom trim peice on the shifter :wink_animate:

Thanks JohnL, now that my right arm's three inches longer... I thought that shifter of yours was pretty neat until I saw the $$$. I just spent that on doctor bills for my stretched out elbow.

Seriously I'm going to PM you with a couple of front axle questions in a couple of days. It' getting close to completion.

Naw, not my shifter, just a pic lifted off the site. I still have the stock shifter.

Great news on the axle, I'll certainly help if I can:)

so, once you uncrew that torx screw will it just pop up? What about the push button on the gear shift?

Yep, you just un-snap that lower trim piece and remove that one screw and the whole shifter (button included) just lifts right off with no effort.
