Hey all!

New to the forums, and new to Jeeps! I picked up a sweet '11 JK X in Mango Tango and I love it! Since this is my first Jeep, I do have a few little questions about it, maybe you guys can help me out...

-The interior dome light doesnt work. When I open the doors, I can see the word "door" on my gauge cluster, so it seems the door switches are working, but I'm getting no lights. Door or switch, neigher work. Yes, I will have to check the bulbs once I figure out how to open the dome light. Just wondering if its a common issue or if it is some kind of special feature to kill the dome lights if the doors are removed.

-The horn quit out on me recently. I've been reading the forums, seems like a common issue, but not sure where to start looking. The steering wheel controls for the cruise control DO work, but the horn doesnt. I checked both fuses, they seem to be good. Does this rule out the dreaded clock spring?

-Since its a Wrangler X, base model, it has the lowest end radio. I see that there are radio controls on the back of the steering wheel, but they do absolutely nothing. Is this a malfunction, or are they not supposed to work with this radio?

Thanks!

I have an 09 X with no steering wheel controls (SWC) but it had the nice touch screen DVD my gig radio in it. I just replaced that with a after market head unit and learned that there are all kinds of options to buy the correct harness to connect to the new radio even though I don't have SWC, you might want to pull out the radio and see if the stock harness looks like its been messed with? He may have put the cheaper radio in it to sell it and not fixed the wiring correctly? I believe even the cheaper radios will work with the SWC but I could be wrong? And if its not wired correctly it can mess with all kinds of stuff. I would check the stock radio harness and see if its been cut into. Very simple to get to and check out.
Then I'm assuming your dome light is in the speaker bar, and if the speakers are working then the speaker bar is still plugged in. There is a plug on the passenger side of the speaker bar so you can take it out if you need to. Its probably just the bulb, if its the same as my 09 then take a flat head screw driver to the passenger side of the light lens, and gently pry it down to open it and it should swing down toward the driver side and hang there. If it is the bulb, put an LED replacement in it. 5 times the light and pulls no power and doesn't get hot.
Hope that helps a little ??

so, I have had an ‘11 Unlimited since new . I’ll give ya two helpful sggts toward getting these sorted out;
if it were me, I’d look at battery itself - if still the OEM ( stock) battery it’s beyond time to replace and hidden cracks in the POS/NEG posts can be invisible to the eye. Even if holding a charge . To accompany that, clean and ensure those posts have quality clamps attached . The factory harnesses to battery are a know weak spot on 07-11s and many of us replace them with beefier. IOWs, going-over your battery is my first suggestion. Then you can begin to look at clockspring and things downstream from it.
These JKs are extremely sensitive electronically ,so attune yourself to their particular electrical system behavior wackiness by reading up on this forum’s Electrical and Lighting section. :shocked:

The 2nd sggtn is to hit the JKOwners Welcome Room section & introduce yourself & your rig to the group. If you keep it, you’ll be glad to have become a member here plus we are just straight up the most awesome group of jeep owners you’ll find. :wink_animate:

Hope that helps. First two are free. :grinpimp:
