Is the supercharger for the 07/08 Jk worth the price? It's about $7,000 but it also saves you on gas. It also adds a whole bunch of ponys to your 3.8 V6. I honostly think it would be worth it, but what do you think? I have a 07 Rubi unlimited and well, it has the 4 speed automatic :bawling: so i guess it's ok but still. The pick-up isn't the greatest, then again the engine hasn't been broken in yet too. It also says on one of the websites such as hesco, that you should not pull anything heavy with it. I have a 16ft CUB camper hybrid and that weighs about 3,000 lbs. A 07 Rubi stock with the Dana 44 can pull upto 3,500 lbs. How would a supercharger make it not be able to pull as much? Anyway, I heard that it feels great driving with one so I'm debating wether or not to purchase one. The only thing is, I'm in my 20's so im not too too great with mechanics but I know the basics like changeing a wheel or tire, but how would I install it if I got it? So not only am I going to have to pay to purchase it, but to pay Midas a cuple hundred bucks to install it for me. Well, im going off topic a bit, anyway wold it be good too if you had a snorkle on the jeep? There are pros too, like you'll have alot more pick-up and have a higher top speed. I think it adds about 70 bhp so... :) Well, thanks for reading and I'll besure to add more reviews, Have a great day :bounce:

I installed my own Hesco Super Charger and I'm not a mechanic nor do I play one on TV. ;)

The install was simple. Even I could follow along and I didn't even have extra parts left over.

The performance is definitely worth it, even with my 4 door automatic.

I'll add that changing the gearing out to 5.13 with the 37" and adding the UniChip (fixes an issue with the auto tranny plus adds some more ponies) plus the Scangauge II (for monitoring) and the speedometer calibration tool (adjusted the computer by default) for different gears and tires has made my JK come to life.

I do not regret my purchase. Although is it really 7k now? Damn!

I plan on pulling little trailer behind mine. I haven't read any of the warnings but I can't imagine if you are still under designed capacity you should have any problems. I'll let you know.

Ok it's still at the sale price of 4995! ;)

I do recommend the UniChip for your automatic tranny. The 6 spd doesn't have an issue but the auto gets confused when you are hard on the skinny pedal.

The ScanGauge is nice but not a requirement.

The speedo tool helps your computer shift at the right moments.

Regearing for your tires helps too.

Regearing was 1k from Mel at Off Road Evolution in Fullerton Ca, everything else is on the Hesco site or available from vendors such as RJR Offroad.

So the 6k you are thinking should get you 100% complete and out the door.

I'm not entirely sure how much the trailer weighs in at just yet. I'll know more once it's done.

FWIW, I'm getting about 16mpg with 37" tires, around town. And that's without babying it. Not stomping but not babying.

If I had the coin I'd probably buy the HESCO kit. I imagine they say not to haul heavy loads because the supercharger is putting more stress on the engine, and the added weight of a heavy load may stress it too much. I'm sure it's one of those generic warnings to cover their tails in case you blow it up towing a load. That way you can't come back and say you weren't warned.

Ohh ok, so I should buy it then, ok cool. Yeah I wasn't sure about the towing warning so, but as redrock said that they are just saying that in case it does happen they don't get blamed or whatever :grinpimp:

Thanks Michael and Redrock ;), So when time comes to show, I'll buy the Hesco one, and the uniclip and other accesories :D

Huh. I must have missed that warning on the trailers.... that is one of the biggest reasons I got mine. I have had it installed now since June and have put over 13,000 supercharged miles on my Rubicon since then... and a number of those miles pulling my 5x0 trailer with construction materials, furniture, junk ,and whatever. (27,000+ total miles in 12 months on 10/31/07)

I had mine installed (#3 kit) by Hesco in Birmingham. Why? Mainly because it takes me forever to do major projects and I wanted to drive my Jeep, not have a driveway queen waiting on me to finish the last bolt. Plus at the time, the Unichip was a hardwired unit and I figured if it wasn't installed correctly my engine was toast.

So, would I do it again? You betcha! This thing is a blast! And the more weight in steel I add the more glad I am that I have it.

You'll be glad you got one.

The biggest thing to watch for is PREMIUM FUEL ONLY.... and the quality of fuel at that. I bought fuel twice in Kansas and both times had a check engine light after burning 3/4 tank of it. And only Kansas at that. Makes me wonder what % of the fuel was ethanol....

ohh only premium fuel? that kinda sucks :bawling: . Oh and on the website, it said "Don't Pull Anything Heavy" but redrock was saying that it just backs them up if you pull something greater than 3500 lbs (jeeps stock pulling weight with d44)thinking that your supercharger would help or something

And can you like go in lakes and stuff with the supercharger and stuff? Even if you have a snorkle?

Water in engine (cylinders) = bad things happen.

Water on outside of engine = Clean off Engine Block
Water on inside of engine (cylinders) = Clean Out Pockets Eventually

I don't see that there would be any problem as long as the "water on outside of engine" rule is held true. And if the belt slips due to water on the pulley, nothing bad happens, just less boost while the belt is slipping...... unless, of course, the belt slips off, then I hope you are carrying a spare.

ok cool, so it won't be a big conflict with water then.

But, what about mud, let's say your out with your buddies wheelin and you see what appears to be a tiny puddle, and well it swallows your whole truck basically. Not only is it water, but it's mud? Would the ruin the supercharger?

Any Hesco owners with a Source from sPOD(http://www.4x4spod.com/). I am wondering if they will be taking up the same location. Hard to tell in the photographs that I have seen. Here is a photograph of the Source in my Jeep.

Any more feed back on MPG after you installed the Hesco. I might have to pull the trigger on this product. I sure hope I don't blow the engine up pulling my 2000 pound Adventure Trailer Chaser.

It would be tight would be my guess.

I'm also running the UniChip and that plugs in to the ECM right below the sPod. But I don't think that would be a fit issue there.

How far over and up is the sPod box in relation to the ECM ports? Maybe some measuring and I can give you a better answer.

Im pretty sure you pont ruin your engine pulling 2000lbs. I have a 3000lb trailer that I pull with mine, and I don't have the supercharger. Also Redrock was saying that they just say "dont pull heavy loads" just to cover your tail incase you blow up your engine thinking the supercharger maximises the max towing wieght (3500 lbs)

Looking at your picture of where you have your relay box, the supercharger should not interfere. I don't know where Michael located his UniChip, but mine is sandwiched (hidden) behind the plastic splash shield along the inner fender between the computer and the anti lock brake distribution octopus (whatever it is officially called).

I would think that as long as the relay box does not extend much beyond the inner edge of the computer there will be no interference, so you should be good to go.

BTW that is a nice box installation. I have a blastard relay mount over on the other side. Looks amateurish (it is!). I think I'll look into getting one of the SPOD relay boxes just to cleanup the wire mess I have over by the (in the) area where the AEM air filter is.

Also, you won't regret the supercharger. It'll be a lot lighter on your wallet than the hemi swap, plus it'll be a lot more useable. No axle upgrades required.

I got some dyno numbers when my JK was stock. I also got some numbers after a CAI and then after a muffler. I haven't yet ponied up the 50 bucks to go get yet another dyno. However if you guys want to send me the 50, I'll get it done.

Just kidding. I will send an email off to Jon at Hesco and see if he will post up the dyno numbers he got.

I will tell you this, the butt dyno is really, really happy. ;)
