The switch in the door latch closes when the door is opened, supplying a ground for the wire that comes from the TIPM to the latch.
The TIPM senses the ground connection, and tells the cluster what to do with the interior lights.
That ground wire is black, or black with a white tracer, (depending on which side of the connector you are looking at), and can be found in the door's wire harness connector.
I see no indication in my service manual what the door latch wire carries for power. You will have to open the door and probe the wire with a volt meter to see what is there.
Even if you find it has 12v on it, you don't know how the system will tolerate having a lamp, LED, or a relay coil connected to it.

I believe what people usually do to add lights to the interior lighting circuit is tap into the dome light power feed wire.

found this on the webz, you will have to check to make sure it is correct before you start hacking the wire.

"Try Yellow/white (+) ( not White/yellow) Brown20-pin plug pin 4 under passenger kick panel It is dome light.

Left front door trigger, purple, driver kick harness, blk 14 pin plug, pin4

Right front door trigger purple/white, passenger kick,door harness, blk 14 pin, pin 4

The Violet wire on your viper H1/7 door trigger input?

This is for a four door up to 2013, Not sure for a 2 door 2014"

as the other two guys inform OP; These JKs are very particular and weird about interruptions to signal flow from/to various sources so identify then wisely choose some power source which isn’t gonna freak out if the amperage is different than what the computer expects. Multimeters are one of a jk owners most vital tools

Challengers use the canbus system too and I had the "puddle lights" installed on mine and never had an issue. But you are correct, due diligence to make sure it will work before hacking up a wire bundle is a good thing.
