Picked up a Glock 30 gen4 (USA built model) this week. Going to the gun club this morning to put some lead down range. Kinda looking forward to seeing how it shoots, I've heard good things about them.

Anybody have any experience with Speer Gold 230gr JHP's short barrel ammo? What's the difference between the short barrel ammo and the standard ammo?

the g30 is a nice gun. I'm sure you'll be happy with it. As far as the Speer short barrel ammo is concerned, they say it is "engineered" to perform best out of a shorter barreled handgun. That probably means they use different powder and possibly a different projectile as well, to ensure reliable expansion while maximizing velocity and minimizing muzzle blast.

No experience with that ammo, but I've shot the shit out of my Glock 30 (prob'ly gen 1 :dunno: ) and it's a sweet shooter! I bought mine when Kalifornistan enacted their retarded 10-round max. law, so in reaction I bought a compact 10-rd .45 ACP (my preferred auto cartridge). When I first bought it, I was afraid it would be a bit snappy, but that fear was unfounded. Compared to a 1911, for me it has half the felt recoil because it places your hand up closer to the bore centerline so recoil is more of a straight-back push instead of muzzle-flipping torque. My right wrist is a tad perma-******, so I really appreciate being able to sling .45s endlessly from a "small" pistol without fatigue.

Well, I spent a fat paragraph not answering your question (sorry), but I hope your experience is the same as mine: points naturally, feels good in the hand, and eats / shits like a rottweiler (efficiently and enthusiastically).

Your post was so entertaining to read, I forgot what my question was. :D

Shot almost 300 rounds through it today, and dang, what a sweet shooting gun. Very soft shooting .45. In fact, my wife broke her arm last Friday, and was able to shoot it accurately with one hand. No problem. I think I have a new favorite carry gun.

Hopefully you played no part in the wife's broken arm. Cause, you know, handing her a .45 after the fact could reveal a side of her you might not like.:surprise:

I would assume short barreled ammo just uses faster burning powder.
