Well, to start off I bought a used jetta 2005 from Kia off i25 and 119 in Colorado. Took it for a test drive and every seemed fine. I had my VW tech check it out and gave me the go ahead to buy it. Let's fast forward to today, below is all the list of problems I've been having.


Well, worse comes to worse, after reading stuff on lemon laws, FTC used car rule or UDAP, I should have a pretty good case for a lawyer. Some things is gonna get done, I just hope it doesn't come to that.
List of issues:
Well, struts are bad and were masked by the bad tie rods. the car keeps over heating (4th time). neither fan turns on to keep the motor cool. The car over heats just idling after a drive. When I replaced the spark plugs, there was oil in the spark plugs tubes. Even after changing plugs, the car still randomly dies. CD player was replaced after the other one wouldn't shut off when car was turned of(also, if I turn the key to off the car would stay on until I pushed power on the CD player). I replace bald tires because one blew. I replaced mass air flow sensor. The dealer was supposed to replace the whole rack and pinion as per VW specifications. They only replaced the tie rods and said "the rest looked ok". The mechanic never put one of the bolts back in which made a horrible clunk. They fixed that quick. Also, the head lights will randomly shut off and I have to pop the hood and jiggle the wire to get one or the other back on( I've tried finding the bad connection with no luck) ...... Ugggg. Also, I was never told about the problems with the car. I was told there was a list but for some reason, no one can supply it for me..... So what do y'all think?

No, he is a really good friend and jeep buddy and has been working on VWs for years. He wasn't trying to screw me. It's the dealership that misled me and never provided extra info on the car when I asked for it before purchase. I guess there is a maintenance list they keep bring up of pre existing conditions with the car. When I asked for the list (several times) they either can't find it or can't supply it for some reason.

Caveat Emptor

Kick you buddy in the balls. If he is a VW mechanic and really check it out, he would have seen these pending timebombs. Then kick yourself in the balls for buying a used VW. Pretty sure consumer reports has them at the bottom of the list for buying used.

Right, thank you! He was my neighbor and moved back to his home town. We didn't have a lift to lift it and check every thing. He drove it, checked over the engine, every thing looked good.

were looking at a nearly 10 year old car, right? I would consider that mess a typical wear and tear item and should be replaced at a regular interval.

Sounds like someone should inspect that... Coolant level ok, mixture ok, again its a nearly 10 year old car is there a clog in a hose... How does the radiator look? Thermostat been replaced?

That doesn't sound good... Sounds like potential fire hazard lol. But still, it shouldn't be there I would suspect loss of compression causing the seals to fail. I haven't looked at many VW engines but I would suspect some gaskets need checked and replaced or some seals. Also why were the plugs replaced?

hmm sounds like bad news one could suspect it is something getting into the sparkplug area stopping the spark since you have indicated oil be in there... An engine needs three things to run smooth, correct air fuel ratio, correct idle speed for the load, and of course good spark. If your car is dying one of those is missing... Oil in the spark tubes means I would start looking there, and sort out the root cause of the oil there. Also if we have changed the plugs, in response to the car dying someone should note that and see if something else is a miss.

Eh, electrical problems... I hate electrical issues. I would assume it is a stock radio. Probably should dump that mess for something else anyhow nobody should be rocking a stock radio, especially one that is nearly 10 years old. While in there replacing the radio do a quick look around for other wire issues. One of the funny things since having my Jeep, the radio stays on for 30 seconds after I turn the Jeep off when the doors are removed. People are always saying hey your radio is still on. I just give them the stone faced look and say, "that's my outro music, owning a Jeep means you get an outro"

I replace bald tires because one blew
, Umm I would avoid driving on bald tires anyhow. Just common sense here. Bald tires result in flats and dangerous for other drivers when the tire does decide to give up the ship.

Hmm, were sure it is a good working one, correct? Because a bad sensor could be the problem for the dying. But it should toss some codes. Again nearly 10 year old car, probably something that goes bad after time.

Why were they supposed to put in a whole new rack and pinion? Was this a rebuilt vehicle? I don't think anyone replaces a whole system when a single part is bad or needs replacement.

Electrical problems are some of the worst. I hate them. Good news is VW Jetta tends to have a pretty good aftermarket following. I would ditch that (likely halogen) system and go with a nice newer HID system and enjoy seeing better. Also get a system that replaces that crappy system. Or snag new connectors or wiring from another one at a junk yard.

Problems with the car... Buying a used car is buying someones problem. You got someones electrical problems from the sounds of it. Now depending on how much you spent on it and what you are looking for it can be a fairly easy fix.

Replacement engine (this will fix your random dying problem and some others) while replacing it go through the wiring in the bay (this will hopefully fix your headlight problem) Check the hoses also and look for an aftermarket or replacement radiator (this will fix your over heating problem). While it is all out check out the suspension, springs ok, shocks ok, steering system working as it should... replace warn parts.

Downside is I doubt this is a lemon law mess, also doubt any dealer is going to help you out. Again were talking about a nearly 10 year old vehicle. I assume were looking at over 100k miles. Heck even VW isn't going to help someone out.

so to update this, the deal took the car back and got me into a new car for a smoking deal while paying the other car off. They also let me take off the new tires i bought for it. now im in a 20-13 kia forte koup with 20k miles and has 100,000k full warranty.
