If it was me I would pull the shaft and stuff a rag in the tube depending on how far you got to go. the ears on the shafts may still be good.lol thanks goody![]()
now... what are my options?
1. tackweld the cap on there? I drove 60 miles like that last night to get home... I got a feeling the u joint is toast.
2. replace u-joint all together using Doc's youtube tutorial (btw ty)
3. throw in some new axle shafts...
what other options do I got?
a few questions. could I have damaged anything inside the differential from driving with the cap off like that?
is it safe to drive low speeds to a buddy's garage? one of you local guys will have my rig parked outside soon.![]()
Sure you can if you have play somewhere between the pinion and wheel(in this case a broken shaft). With a detroit that much play is normal also.Regardless, you should not be ale to rotate your driveshaft even half that much
the axle shaft has ears? you mean splines? might throw on a new u joint like you mentioned. If it was me I would pull the shaft and stuff a rag in the tube depending on how far you got to go. the ears on the shafts may still be good.
If so Id slap in a new u-joint and call it a day.
The ear is the hole in the shaft where the u-joint is located. If the ears are stretched, the u-joint will not seat correctly in the hole and the shaft will have to be replaced.the axle shaft has ears? you mean splines? might throw on a new u joint like you mentioned.
im talking about the ears where the U joint sits. if they not wallered out.the axle shaft has ears? you mean splines? might throw on a new u joint like you mentioned.

I'd agree on them probably being wallowed out. Check out 2012+ Dana 30 axles, they use the Dana 44 u-joint...as do Nitro chromos.i gotcha. hmm. sounds like i should take the axle shafts out to have a look before i buy anything then.
Winner winner!RCV's woohooo
would this work for a 10' with sleeves already?Check out 2012+ Dana 30 axles, they use the Dana 44 u-joint...as do Nitro chromos.
**** you :gluging: lololRCV's woohooo
Yes it'll work. Depending on who's sleeves you may need to trim them a tad, I think the earlier EVos stuck out quite a bit. The axle shaft is no larger OD, just the larger U-joint is used at the end.would this work for a 10' with sleeves already?
all i need would be a driver side axle shaft lol...
Or those tiny ass teeth on your ring and pinioni like the idea of a axle shaft blowing up verses my arb and spider gears. hopefully i can find one of those 12+ with a driver side axle shaft
