This mod is super handy if you have an ORH top!
it gets the brake light post out of the way so you can reach the velcro easier plus it looks a lot better without the stalk sticking up in the middle of nowhere

I used a spare tire mount that PhilD was kind enough to sport me for another project (the angled tire carrier is still in the works!)
anyway, start by cutting the stalk off of the mount flush with the mount and touch it up with some flat black rattle can.
Remember, the mount is made of magnesium, you do NOT want to get this ignited by some freaky accident and don't try to weld it!
Anyway it was a really simple project, just cut down and ground stock parts, made 2x 3/4" wide brackets from 1" angle iron and drilled a couple of holes in them.
the pics are pretty self explanatory.

And here's finished result

I relocated mine more than a year ago. Mine went right in the trash.:smokin::smokin::smokin:

I like that "trash" plan but somehow I doubt that the inspection station would agree... :shaking::pissed:
Yet another thing I love about Colorado is the lack of inspections other than emissions, which is due on mine in November, 2013 :laughing:

I'm not 100% on this, but I think the only requirement for a high level brake light is from the DOT and applies to the the manufacturer. I think you can remove it yourself.

I removed mine a long time ago, but I do have one on the license plate frame, which I relocated from the body to the center of the spare.

I like Venom's version as it keeps it below the height of the spare, and rear visibility is hard to come by with an oversize tire on the back. I like the camera on Michael's though, having it high up is much better than low down.

Phil, most state laws require that any lighting required and "regulated" under the rule J-578 basically be as shipped... meaning general location and color of light output. (main reason why red, blue or green lamps in the front marker lights is illegal for most every state)

So long as the light is in it's general placement and emit the same lighting as original, then no issue. LEDs were not legal until many of the manufacturers went to SAE and got em approved. Once SAE approves it, it gets a DOT cert.

eh, I like my setup
essentially free and all factory parts, but whatever works:grinpimp:
Free is always good :smokin:

I only relocated my license tag because the swing away arm covered part of it, then had to get a lighted license tag frame etc.

After trying a couple of different things, I ended up modifying a LED trailer light. This is now a very bright LED brake light, and also illuminates my license tag. It's a bit big and ugly, but works very well.

MichaelW, is that a back-up camera mounted on top of the 3rd BL? Would love to see pics of that setup if so

Phil, where did you get the blank for the old license plate frame? I have the ORO relocation bracket but haven't installed it because I was trying to decide on how the fill in that damn hole.
