After a drive yesterday I noticed that the area of the plastic part of rear bumper just outside of the exhaust pipe was melted. Can someone tell me what that means?

Picture would help. It could be part of the tailpipe broke off and blowing hot exhaust into bumper now, or the exhaust got bent upwards. Or aftermarket exhaust mounted too close to bumper.

As far as I know it is not an after-market exhaust.

See pic from Web, your muffler is titled up for whatever reason, maybe a broken hanger or it got hit from underneath.

@deepbluerubi is correct. Check muffler hangers, something either broke or shifted.

There are two rubber hanger mounts. One on each side of the muffler. They keep the muffler in line.

Thanks. Mounts and hangers were fine. Problem was that the pipe that connects with frontside of muffler wasn’t clamped or welded together. So muffler shifted titling exhaust pipe up into bumper.
