Hey guys,

I had an OEM tie rod put in today to replace my bent one. When i asked if the toe needed to be checked i was told know because it was OEM so everything should be fine. Well since i have had DW in the past i wish i would have forced them to check it but the part and install were free and i didnt want to seem ungrateful. Well now what was a jeep with almost no DW and a bent tie rod has now turned into a vehicle that is barely driveable. I know how to adjust the toe but i am very very very bad at it. Last time i tried made it much much worse. Is there anyone around 7th st and the 101 who would be willing to help or supervise my trying to fix this. I am still unemployed and have zero cash for beer or anything and i feel like a mooch for asking but i couldn't even drive to an interview right now if by some miracle i were to get one. I know my steering stabilizer is leaking but everyone says if it is dialed in right i dont even need it.
I am begging please someone help me. :th_pray:

602-299-7357 text if you can help.....i know how to adjust the tie rod...just never mastered how to tell if it right other than driving.

well I cannot actually help you but fyi, when the dealer replaced my tie rod they left off the adjustment sleeve. That's another story but although I'm no mechanic but I'm pretty sure that means they are adjustable:cwm13::koolaid: oh and it was my alignment shop who noticed it when guess what they were trying to adjust the toe........but I guess you knew that....good luck

I went to double check, but this tie rod was actually unbolted from a D44 front end that was upgrade to much heavier duty axle and hydro steering. We just unbolted both sides of the stock D44 and the bolted it straight into mine. I know i could put a new steering stabilizer in but that wont fix the issue...just mask it and eventually blow out the stablizer anyway.....

Ok Jeep is officially getting parked until the DW is fixed...tried fixing it myself and thought it was fixed...just had to take my daughter to a party and had the typical 40mph DW (watched road and pushed it to 50)....but then on the fly-over from the 17S to 101E i got a DW at 65mph....OMG almost peed myself....so scary...

After reading these posts, and you keep saying you know how to adjust the tie rod, then you have it in you to know how to check it! Since your unemployed, you have loads of time to figure it out. There are many places on this and other forums to explane just how to adjust and check your toe-in. You do however need a couple items. A tape measure is good. If you have a long stick that goes from center of tire to center of the other tire is great. Now get out to your garage and check it out. Also of most importance to making sure ALL the bolts are tight on the whole front end! Especially your track bar, that one is super tight!
Any warantee left? Let them worry about it till its fixed...

Yeah no warranty, and i am going out to try again this AM...I measure, adjust, drive...wobble wobble wobble...no matter how much i try i just can't get it to dial in....and asking kids under 14 to be my assistance isnt helping. I am not asking anyone to do it for me, i dont mind turning the wrenches (broke all the nails already) but having a seasoned eye to help is what i am asking for more than anything. After all the failed attemps i am less than confident.

Check your area for any Jeep clubs, jeepers will help out other jeepers.
It might not be your toe-in, it could be a number and combination of a few things, my issue was not track bar related, but a combination af bad ball joints, bent tie rod, unbalanced tire and crapped out SS.Now I don't want to hear everybody raggin on me about how the SS doesn't cause DW, I KNOW, but I do believe that as a system , all components are needed to be present and functioning properly.

Sounds like you have covered everything you can do.. In the link that Uncle Sam sent I saw where they put in a 9/16 bolt in the track bar I belive. I'm going to guess you had it all apart to check ffor elongated holes ect..

Anyway that article was great at explaining what DW is and what to look for..
Good luck on fixing it, seems like a lot might have to be replaced or at least check very closely..

that is why i am posting in the southwest :)...most of the locals check in here. The DW was not there until i installed the OEM tie rod Friday. I just went out and adjusted it again...it seems to be better, but not perfect yet. Tried to swap out my busted stabilizer too but i couldnt get the new one in (the bracket by the drag link is bent :().....everything else is tight...might go to a local shop monday and have my work double checked.
