Well folks, I've stepped in a pile of it once again.

I've had a long running issue with my RIPP supercharged 2013 JKUR throwing O2 sensor codes and generally being pissed.

I replaced everything, new sensors, new cats, new main engine harness, new intake, COMPLETE NEW ENGINE (due to a hydrolock). Same stupid codes came back over and over for years.

I discovered a while back that I could get it to throw codes by wiggling the wiring harness where it connects to the PCM/ECU (this led to replacing the harness).

The only thing left was the ECU itself. Tonight I swapped it out.. which is a dog and pony show. Return the ECU t stock to free up the programmer, swap the ECU, update the programmer, contact support because the programmer lost it's mind, update the RIPP tunes, reflash the ECU with the RIPP tune...

4 hours later, the new ECU is in, and the RIPP tune is installed.

It starts and runs... but I have the throttle light blinking and zero throttle response, throwing throttle related codes, I forget which, and it's too late in the evening for me to go back out and pull them.


I suspect I need to have the new ECU "learn" the throttle... but how? No ignition switch, steering wheel pedal hokey pokey?

I have a Superchips, and the Diablosport inTune i2.. can I get it done with those? Another tuner/diag tool that will work?

I know that the AEV Procal can do it. HPTuners can as well, but it's $$$ (although, it can also fix your o2 sensor issues).

If you think you may have a V8 swap in your future, then I'd recommend going HPTuners. I don't have any experience with Diablo, but I know HPT allows access to just about everything and would allow you to get your Ripp'd 3.6 running as well as possible.

There is a throttle re-learn dance you can do. Can't remember how but it's out on the webz somewhere...

Do any stores stock the Procal? It'd be nice to pick something up today, so I have the weekend to deal with it if it does not work.

Doing a quick search on the internet, I ran across this thread on another forum:

I'm assuming the relearn process for the Jeep JK would be the same. I don't think it would hurt to try.

I saw that last night.... the general consensus is that it's snake oil, and only has a placebo effect.

My ASE mechanic came over this morning and put a proper diagnostic tool on it and performed the ETC relearn test, which completed, but the problem remains. RIPP replied to my email and suggested I reapply the tune, thinking maybe it didn't do so correctly the first time.

I currently have the battery disconnected to see if that'll kick start it,after a while I'll go hook it back up, and re-do the tune to see if that helps, but I'm not too hopeful. I may have to swap the old ECU back in so that it will at least run.

FYI for future reference or anyone coming here for answers in a similar situation:

Reapplying the tune had no effect. Disconnecting the battery had no effect.

I did notice in the tune menu of the inTune a setting for "throttle booster" which monkey's with the throttle settings to trick you into thinking it's more responsive. Changing that value (I used 10%) and writing it to the ECU fixed the issue. I suspect I can change it back to zero now and it'll still be fine, I just wanted to try the 10% setting to see if I like it.

it isn'tthe degree of control which most guys who are asking about throttle response seek but there is a relearn process built-in to (at least) the '07-'11 jk .

my 3.8l is purring and idling like a kitten at moment. if I go down & before turning it over , just turn to Run but right after dash lightup sequence ceases , I slowly , steadily mash the throttle thru it's entire spectrum , then turn OFF. After I then start the Jeep , it will sputter & ever so slightly appear to ' miss' or hiccup for about 2/10th of a mile , thru each gear , finally settling back into it's 're-learned' response parameters.

Is there any real documentation on this? No service manual instructions.... no official mention of the procedure anywhere?

Seems weird to me. I still think it's 100% in the noggin, but if it makes you happy....

There are a small number of steering wheel or pedal mash combinations that are in the Owner manual ( like the reset your OIL change interval or disable ETC for that runtime period via steering-wheel dance that was so difficult) .
There are many others in Chrysler/RAM/Jeep vehicles that are not documented = I am of the opinion- because they were never meant for the owner to be performing. You know those countless times in owner's manual where i;s stated to "take it to a chrysler service center " or whatever the verbiage is?

believe what you want but the Chrysler Dodge and Ram trucks are pretty uncomplicated yet, they're still throttle- by-wire vehicles .
I know when things are in the noggin ; this aint one of those . it's just resetting the TPS is all.,
