Has anyone tried hauling a dirt bike or dual sport on the back of their JK? I'm thinking about getting a dual sport soon (WR250R, DRZ400, KLX250, or whatever I can find under 4k with a title and a plate) So I want to be able to haul it around on the back with my 35x12.5 spare. I'm not sure how far the rack style carriers and the hydraulic ones stick out from the receiver.

I used one on my TJ. I put the spare inside. It needs quite a bit of room and there was no way to keep the spare on the back.
Getting ready to try it on my JK soon but I'm not sure if my bumper is strong enough. Right now the muffler is in the way of the receiver pin.

Yeah, this is what I have to work with, the more I look at carriers, I don't think I'm going to find one that works. I am curious to see if someone has done it without removing the spare. I might have to find a cheap trailer or something. Maybe I can modify it later on to be an off road trailer and a bike hauler all in one

They're out there, just gotta pay attention to the length of the draw bar on the rack. I've put a Trials bike on mine and I'm pretty sure my 426 will fit on the JK, too. Spare is a 315/70-17 on TF carrier. Hitch receiver is factory.

Their products have a pdf file showing dimensions. I have the Cam-loc JH05, heavy duty, about 80lbs. Hitch pin to center of bike's track is 24". Doesn't rattle, barely moves, but you can sure feel a bike hangin' out there on anything other than a truck when hittin' turns on gravel roads at pace. Plenty of clearance with the Trials bike, the tailgate is down on the truck pic and I have plenty enough clearance. The bikes tie down solidly with the wide-spaced tie mounts. Have had my Joehauler for 15 years. If I need it to haul my heaviest streetbike, it will. It wasn' cheap then, it really ain't cheap now. :D

You can find carriers for under $200, but I don't entrust my possessions to Chinese support...there is always an issue with cheap that may put your valuables at risk.

Yeah, I saw Joe hauler, they seem like the best bet for using a hitch hauler. I guess I need a bike first though haha. I won't be back hime for a month either.

I have a hitch carrier and can't think of the name right now and don't have any pics but used to haul a dr350 on the back of my 2 door a few times when I didn't want to take my trailer. It worked but a pia to get the bike loaded up and get it down. I knew it was back there like others have said.

Pretty interested in this also, I already use a 11" extension on my receiver to so my cargo rack can clear my spare tire and rotopax gas can. I have a KLR 650 which is pretty heavy, so I am wondering if it is to much weight for the jeep

Just picked up an 08 WR250X the other day. I guess I'll keep a look out for a joe hauler, but there's a lot I need to do to this bike before I worry about that. I just spent $200 for a new chain, sprockets and an air filter. The LCD is burnt out also (I got a deal on it because of this, but still) I just ordered a new one, the only ones are in Japan and the thing costs $450! The bike only weighs 280 pounds dry, so my Jeep should be able to haul it well on the hitch if I can find one that clears the spare

Just an update to this, I got ran into on the WR back in June, so I never really started looking for a carrier. I'm about to leave the Marines in a couple weeks and Uhaul hates Jeeps, so I ended up getting a 5x8 and put a sheet of plywood on it. It handles probably better than a hitch hauler and now I have a way to bring gear/tools/race gas to the track. I'm moving up to Ohio, so I'm probably going to try to race the DRZ in SMEC this year.
