We are excited to announce that we are live on our new forum platform!

It’s been a long time coming. Let’s face it. Sometimes older forum technology lags behind other parts of the internet. Although seeing the same format for a long time is comforting, the member experience shouldn’t include dealing with outdated, unsafe, slow software.

The transition to a new platform will never be 100% smooth but the days of dealing with out of date forum software are over. We have teams dedicated to building a world-class community for you. The development has been steady with regular software releases since May 2019. Asking members for feedback and coming up with ideas for improvement is what we want.

Speed and Reliability Are Key
No one should have to wait for information. This site has been built to be much faster and more reliable, period.

New Homepage Experience
Your home page now features the most active forums, trending discussions, featured showcases, and top contributing members. This will keep you up to date on what’s happening in your community and, as we go through updates, will become a very personalized experience for our members.

Search
We have introduced new search algorithms, powered by an industry-leading AI platform, to help you find information faster. We plan to roll out new features to continue improving search, and to power many additional areas of the forum.

Due to the volume of content, our search platform may take some time to complete indexing over the first few days after migrating. During this process, you may see a limited number of posts until indexing has been completed. We appreciate your patience.

Finding Your Way Around
We have made the design clean and simple to use. Near the upper right-hand corner of the community, you will see navigation icons.

The first icon is for what’s new on the site.

Clicking on it, by default, will take you to new unread posts. On that page, you can click on additional tabs as well, such as Popular, if you prefer to view active topics.

Clicking the list icon next to “NEW” will bring you to the full forum listing.

Clicking your avatar will give you a drop-down menu for all things related to your account.

You can also navigate more by clicking the 3 vertical dots.

Dark Mode
We have introduced Dark Mode. One of our favorite features allows you to access the site with a power-saving, and easier on the eyes dark mode. You can access it in the drop-down menu under the 3 vertical dots.

Save Bookmarks
Now you can save your favorite discussion threads and posts! Bookmarks are a handy way to remember and easily find great content or stuff you want to read later.

We also wanted to make it easier for new users to understand the lingo of forums. We have cleaned up various language to more commonly recognized phrases including:
  • Following - Thread subscriptions, and Watched are now known as Following
  • Conversations - Private Messages or PMs are now conversations and can be accessed from the user avatar drop-down in the main navigation
  • Showcase - Showcase is designed for users to "showcase" items/projects through the use of uploaded images, text descriptions and custom content categories. It’s a way to visually and textually provide detailed information on the content you wish to share. The showcase would be similar to a catalog, whereas the gallery would be like a photo album. It can be accessed from the drop-down menu with the 3 dots.
Take a tour and look around! Check out the Help section for some quick FAQs about the new platform.

Please keep all feedback, questions, concerns, requests for help, etc.regarding the new platform right here in this Feedback thread. This will help us make sure not to miss a request for help and also let us pass along your thoughts to our Product team. The Admins and I will be here to help along the way taking note of your comments.

I will be here during your transition to the new platform, to help with any questions, help with navigation or how to do things, and to listen to your feedback so please don't hesitate to holler at me. I want to help. You can also check out our FAQs.

I do want to take a moment to introduce myself. My name is Cricket. When I was born, my father told his friends I was the ugliest baby he had ever seen, and that I sounded just like a cricket (I was born with the hiccups.) so yes, I have been Cricket for 58 years now. I live just outside of San Antonio, Texas. I spend most of my free time out in nature and exploring the back roads. During late autumn when it starts to finally cool down, I disappear from the world for a bit for camping trips and hiking.

Please don't be afraid to explore and test out things to see how they work on the site.

Although you can certainly use the "insert image" icon to upload an image to your post, you can also just drag and drop it to the text editor or even copy/paste it into there!

You can easily share videos just by adding the URL directly into the text editor!

Gif links from sites like giphy.com will display automatically just by adding the gif URL directly in the text editor. Try it!

I am a huge fan of the dark mode for the community. What is your favorite feature?

We will be seeing weekly updates (approximately) to the site which are largely based on community feedback so we absolutely want to hear your feedback!

I have worked with our community support team for just over 5 years but I have worked with forums for closer to two decades. I won't always know the answers to your questions, but I can find someone who does, as needed. ;)

Hello all,

Welcome to your new home, I am still around here also if needed. Just a quick reminder about the older homepage content that has been merged into thread view and is now searchable.

We have migrated the content from the legacy homepage sections and it has not been lost:

Land Use, Trail Reports, Product Reviews have been migrated under a new section "Miscellaneous" here:

You locked 2 threads in Chit Chat because "this is where we should discuss the new updates" - REALLY?

Discussions in Chit Chat are none of your fawking business - leave that free-for-all alone, and we'll post in here politely if we have anything nice or constructive to say to / for you.

UNLOCK THE CHIT CHAT THREADS - ARE YOU TRYING TO KILL JKO IN 1 DAY? - YOU'RE OFF TO A GOOD START.

I actually edited my response and unlocked the thread. (I only locked one.)

Can I ask a huge favor of y'all?

Can we keep all feedback, questions, concerns, requests for help, etc.regarding the new platform in our Community Feedback thread?

The reason this is important is that we will be seeing weekly updates (approximately) that are largely fueled by community feedback. While that doesn't mean we can action every request, it does mean we are actively listening to the feedback and sharing it with the developers. By keeping all of the information in one thread, we can help make sure that we don't miss anything.

We are just asking that it be posted to the community feedback thread. :)

Edit: I have unlocked this thread so that you have a place to rant if you wish, but if you actually want some help with the new platform, please post your questions in the feedback thread so that I can help.

Hello all,

BUMPing this for those who are checking back in as we will not be responding to the "Banter" threads in the Chi Chat section.

Note I am the same community manager who helped you guys through the last update back in 2016 - reminder HERE

This new UI is really rubbish. For starters, I can no longer quickly see the latest thread in each of the sections like you could do in the old UI. Yes there is a latest Posts section at the bottom but its not the same and we had that in the old UI too.

The amount of real estate wasted in each post's signature is ridiculous.

Traffic was pretty slow here to begin with but with this change, I believe you have disinterested those who have stuck around. Sad day indeed.

@ALASHA

Have you checked out this link? New Posts

We will be working on additional weekly updates and there is a compact mode current under development.

You can choose to turn off signatures and we are working on some update to how they work in the near future.

Your signature can include up to 4 lines, a maximum of 1000 characters and one link. An image counts as a line. Anytime you hit "enter" on your keyboard, it will automatically go to a new line. Images will automatically be resized to 300 x 200 pixels. You can see more options in your settings to collapse signatures, always view full signature, or to not see signatures at all. The choice is yours.

Both guests and members can view signatures.

If a user has their preferences set to the default they will see collapsed signatures as in the example below for them. (They can click to see more.)

If a user has their preferences set to always show expanded signatures it will look like the example below for them. Your image can be clicked to view full size.

If you want to adjust your preferences for signatures you can click on your avatar near the upper right-hand corner of the site and select account settings.

In the left side navigation, you will see an option for preferences. Click it.

Scroll down to content options and select your signature preferences.

I dont like looking at a New Posts section. I like seeing the latest post per section. Thats just my taste I guess.

As for signature, its not about hiding my signature. In my case its a one liner which still defaults to "Show Full Signature" which is stupid. Im talking about the distance between where my post ends and where the next post begins. This space is filled with a signature, a bunch of white space and then the reply buttons. It was a lot tighter in the old UI.

My offhand constructive feedback requests = if possible, please restore text coloring, classic JKO smileys, and any vestiges of the familiar that you can. After the last update, we could at least use the "Classic Dark" skin so it "looked" like JKO. Now, it's soulless and pedestrian - this place might as well be Wrangler Forum (that's not a good thing). Also, the new censorship "****" is some farging bullshyte that fawks with folks used to freedom of expression and "colorful" adult conversations.

Positive feedback = thanks for at least putting "JKOwners Forum" where you had "Jeep Wrangler JK Forum" - you'll likely never understand the depth of irony and insult that label carried. Good move making this seem like less of a commodity / line-item on the site owners' inventory sheets.

Honestly can't say I'm impressed so far. Navigation changes I can deal with, however I have the following complaints so far:

When clicking on a thread that you have read before it no longer takes you where you last read the thread, it starts from the beginning which is annoying. Hopefully this is only because the change over.

Under the old software, threads were marked that you had replied to them represented by a check mark. This doesn't seem to be the case any longer. Having the ability to see the threads you responded to without having to go into them is something I rely on when skimming the forum.

And I see that not all emojis are showing in threads either. Hopefully this will get corrected.

Yeah, we are doing away with the "Show Full Signature" in the near future.

@ExWrench

We will have weekly updates coming out as we tweak settings and develop new features so hang in there. I know we are working on a new homepage and compact mode so more improvements to come.

Have you tried the new "Dark Mode" as Cricket mentioned above?

Happy to have updated that label for you guys, no worries.

Ok, another issue. Being able to select if you want to receive e-mail updates to a thread used to be under the Post Reply, now it seems to be automatic. You should be able to select what kind of notification you want when posting and not having to dig through your profile to change it.

@Will Scarlet

Thanks for the feedback.

Yes, it will take some time to index the search and populate "new post" but this might help after a few days.

  • Clicking the thread title will take you to where you left off, the 1st unread post.
  • Clicking the timestamp below the title will take you to the 1st post of the thread.
  • Clicking the timestamp above the last poster user takes you to the last (newest) post.
To see threads that you are following click here.

How To Know If You Posted In A Thread

Step One:
Check your preference settings by clicking on your account settings under your avatar near the upper right-hand side of the community.

That will bring you to a new page with some left-side navigation. Select preferences.
3496

Step 2: Make sure you have a checkmark in "Automatically watch content you interact with" and then click save.
3497

Step 3: Now when you check popular or new posts you will see an "eye" under the title area.
3498

It will also show on the thread list within a forum section.
3499

Try it and let me know if it works for you.

Alternative Methods For Users Wanting To Know If Someone Replied To Their Thread.

There are a couple of ways you can avoid going back to look. You can try them both to see if one works for you.

Option One
If you use "new posts" to navigation the forum, the default filter is for unread post, so if it is not displaying for you there, there is no response yet.

Option Two
First, double-check your preference settings. Make sure you have a checkmark next to "watch content you create". You can even get an email notification if you wish.
156634

If you have it set that way, you can navigate to following and click the "my discussions" tab.

On the "my discussions" tab, if the title is bold, it has unread posts in it.
156636

Let me know if that helps at all.
