A few of us (3 so far) are planning on meeting up at the Itchtucknee River State Park Sunday for a tube/float/swim down the river. If you've never swam in Florida springs, you will be amazed at how CLEAR the water is. 100-200' visibility is the norm. It's cold though: 72º.

Anyways, if you wanna go, we're gonna meet at the North Entrance at 8 AM
Sunday August 16th. 2 of us will then drive to the south entrance to drop off one of our rigs so we can all ride back to the north entrance after going down the entire river.

Anyways, here's a link:

Up in my neck of the woods now. Done the Itchy many times. Tubed, snorkeled and canoed. Heck, even did the run with the boyscouts many, many years ago. Great day with family, especially kids. Easiest just to rent tubes and catch the shuttle. Be sure to get there early. They generally set a cap for the number of people, especially on a busy, hot weekend.

No glass or trash allowed.

Question about how/what to bring?

What's the plan for bringing along snacks/drinks?

I dont think they let you bring any snacks or drinks on the tuck anymore. I could be wrong - but I think they outlawed it. Too many idiots leaving trash. That river is pristine. We could leave lunch at the Jeep that is parked at the halfway point (southern end) if you wanna walk up to the jeep and get it (about a 1/4 mile walk I would say). Otherwise, takes about 3-3.5 hours to float/swim the tuck.

Personally, I'd rather just tough it out and swim that bad boy. But I'll go along w/ group thought.

Well, I was just curious; didn't know if your wife was going to carry a backpack or something.

I checked weather.com and it said 30% chance of rain in the afternoon. I think that if we are at the gates at 8 AM when they open, we'll do fine.

[hijack]I just came back from Juniper Wilderness Trail. I had my dad with me and he's a *****. I was creeping along at a 2-2.5mph pace and had to stop every 2 minutes or so for him to catch up. We did about 4 miles round trip.

I'll be going out there again for the 18 mile round trip soon.[/hijack]

See you at the river tomorrow morning at 8:00. My cell is 352-239-2391.

have fun guys. wish i could join ya... that place looks amazing!
i tell you... i was surely getting sick of this state until i got my Jeep and found the fellow wheelers i know today. getting out and camping (what i use to do all the time in Maine) and wheeling has truly made me appreciate this state much more. and places like this!!! holy crap!! i didn't know this existed in Florida! that's my type of place. not much of a beacher but i'll swim this damn thing the next time you all decide to.:smokin:
