Cobra 29 LTD Install???

Hello... new '08 JK X owner here.

I did a search put couldn't find an answer, so here goes....

I have a full size, peaked and tuned Cobera 29 LTD that I used to mount on top of the center stack in my TJ. I'd like to mount it in the same position in my new KJ. Has anyone mounted a CB there and how do you pop off the plastic top on the center stack?

Excuse the GPS mounted on top of the radio... it was a one time trial idea that got canned.

I am assuming you meant JK not KJ right? ;)

I have a Cobra 25 mounted on the passenger side of the shifter with a Ram Mount, And it works good! The only issue is that i can't slide the seat forward anymore.

Here is the pic before the install, And as soon as i get another digital camera, I will take more pics.

One problem with stacking it on that dash piece, Is that it does not have any support underneath.

I had mine mounted on top of the center console for a long time and worked out great. The top just pops off, there are couple clips in the rear - i just slipped a flat head under the rear and pulled it up. It is plenty stiff enough to support the CB.
If you have the compass option it might screw it up some, the sensor is mounted under the cover and will be fairly close to the speaker (magnet) in the cb. I've thought about putting my Uniden up there but losing it due to theft has overruled. Good luck!
BTW, mine's mounted like Big A's, only on the driver side of the tunnel.

Hope Bodyguy doesn't mind me stealing pics from his photobucket account (guess he hasn't seen this post), but here is how he did his and how I plan on doing mine. It seems to work real well....he made the brackets and has made me one whenever I get a chance to get it and install it...

I thought about that one as well, the thing that kept me from doing it is top off+unexpected rain=wet cb. The jeep may be somewhat water resistant, but I know the cb isn't.

Prob is, with the top off and rain, the CB is gonna get wet pretty much anywhere it is unless you stash it under a seat or in a tuffy or something.

Now under the seat is an option if you plug in an external speaker and hang it behind your head so you can hear it like I have seen done in the past.

True, they will get wet no matter what. Depending on where you mount up top though, those with the leak in the freedom tops will still get the radio wet.

Funny you should mention external speakers, I put mine in the padding on the roll bar behind my head, it's invisible and sound quality does not suffer, if anything it takes out some of the high frequency ear piercing noises. I have some pics in a thread somewhere on here....

Very similar to how I did mine, but I mounted mine straight.

OK, not really. I made a bracket with aluminum flat bar and attached to the upper windshield frame and used hose clamps to attach it to the footman's loop. Works great.
