depends on what style bumper you're looking for.... there are plenty of threads on here with bumper discussions.... poison spyder, shrockworks, jeepswag, genright, smittybilt.... take your pick... (these are just a FEW of the vendors I can think of off-hand... not trying to sell you on anyone specifically)

Get a stubby bumper rather than a useless full-width one. A stubby will do everything you need, perform much better off-road, and keep weight off the vehicle. If it matters to you, Warn bumpers are made in Mexico not the USA.

Some people prefer full width because of the added protection across the entire front and corners, which helps with impacts, including other cars. Though I don't know there would be any advantages on a hard impact like a crash.

I would recommend stubby for the capabilities mentioned by desert dog and because it gives me a much better view of the suspension system and access to it. I find it much easier to work on the front end with a stubby rather than a full width. I prefer minimalistic and efficient approaches, I just hate the bulkiness of having the entire front covered by a huge bumper.

I have been very happy with my JCR Daggar rear and plan on picking up a front one in the next few months. My vote is for stubby. I like having a free path to the tire when I rock crawl. There have been plenty of times a full width bumper would have caused problems on obstacles (Gauntlet at Morris Mountain, for example). Before you get a bumper, decide on a few options
1: stubby, mid, or full width
2: winch mount or no, sunken or no
3: no guard, prerunner, winch guard, or full stinger
4: light mount options (squares for duallys, round for factory, or none at all)
5: Recovery points or no
6: Material... Aluminum or steel (weight factor), look at Nemesis for aluminum bumpers
7: Protection. Some offer options for skids for the crash bar and/or electronic disconnect motor.
8: Approach. Do you want to cut frame to get a better approach angle (poison spyder BFH) or do you require the crash bar (for something like the Teraflex dual rate sway bar)?

I do like the look of Stubbies but won't run one or suggest them. A high clearance, full width will go where a stubby will for the most part and still protect the front end. Any impact to the front tire will bend and twist control arms and brackets on the diff. Ask me how I know..
Full width will also give you a measure of protection against bush rats..
I like the AEV Premium. It is high clearance, will clear 37s and works well with factory flares. Solid but not cheap.

I prefer a full width bumper.

It's irresponsible to suggest a stubby without knowing where the OP wheels, how hard he goes, how much he daily drives his Jeep, etc.

One size does NOT fit all.

True, a lot of it is preference; however I have been up stuff that a full width wouldn't let me.

For me, you couldn't give me a full width to put on my Jeep.

Like mentioned above, aluminum should be the material of construction for everything that can be added to your jeep......if you can afford it.
Unfortunately aluminum does not fair well in areas that use calcium or salt on the roads in the winter.
