considering buying an O/U this year. choices so far are Browning Cynergy or Beretta Silver Pigeon.

Looked at the BT99 as well, but I want one I can use for trap as well as field and maybe later skeet etc.

I used to have a Browning auto and now own a Beretta auto so no brand loyalty

both seem to come up nice and are comfortable and quick to point for me.

any opinions of one or the other?

From my research on the exact topic, the Beretta is a better choice over the cynergy line. I'm more into sporting clays and skeet but I'm leaning toward the Browning Pro line with the adjustable comb and ported barrels.

thanks for the info, but, can you expand a bit more on why you think the Beretta is the better choice. I have gotten that response a couple times but without reasons.

The only thing I can add it probably won't help you much is I purchased a 725 Sporting a couple of years back and it's a beast!

I would do a little research on which one holds their value over time historically, I know well kept but used 625's, 525's etc hold theirs pretty well.

Good luck they're both nice and I wouldn't hesitate buying either one!!

Look at a browning crossover you can add a adjustable comb.
Any gunsmith can repair a Browning a Beretta few and far between.
I use one for trap and sporting clays.

stopped at the local shop Fri after work. once again he had no cynergys in stock. took a look at the Citori 725 and a Beretta Pigeon.
was interesting called around to a few other shops, no one had the cynergy. most said they were hard to sell and they would order one if I prepaid but not to have it sit in their shop.

the Beretta won. it comes up to my shoulder very well. I like the feel of it. It didn't hurt that I currently shoot a Beretta auto.

I do have two issues with it, both very minor.
first the case it comes with. I expected something usable, not just hard plastic. oh well I have a nice case that it will be transported in.

second it comes with 5 chokes. yeah I should have read that a bit more literally. it comes with 5 chokes, not 5 pair of chokes. oh well ordered a couple extras off the beretta site and we should be good to go.

can't wait to get it out and see how it shoots. will probably still use the auto this week. than switch to this next week.

I'm a Browning guy - but OneOunce is right - if one fits you, the other one probably will not fit you. Your key issue here is Fit - not how they look - and you need to know the drop at comb, drop at heel, length of pull etc that fits you - or they both may be a mistake for you. Shotguns do not come in one size fits all .......

I'm also not a big Cynergy model fan / most of my guns are from the Citori model lineup - and while I think the jury is still out on the longevity of the Cynergy lockup system, it seems to be doing just fine.

As you probably realize, there are a lot of models of the Cynergy out there ( 17 in the current catalog ) / and in the 686 too ..... If you can, shoot similar models and see if they fit / take them to a patterning board if you can / you can't tell by shooting targets.
