I noticed that I need new rear brake pads and I am going to do this my self. The question is am I in for any surprises? I mean this has never been a problem on any other vehicle but with the JK I just thought I would ask.

I dunnno about 100K on a JK, lots of people have had to replace them at 20-30K
*most* vehicles will do an easy 70K on the back brakes but the JKs seem a little different
I haven't looked at mine (21K) but I will when I do my brake lines this week.
I need to check and see if Hawk makes pads for the JK, had them on my old superchaged pickup and they worked great.

edit: looks like hawk makes front pads only, but in 2 compounds, high perfomance street or light truck/SUV

I had 8700 on my rears and they ate through to my rotors. My dealer would not cover them so I had too buy new pads and rotors.. My front were down to 20% so I changed my front pads at the same time! They said it was due to my 2.5 lift and over sized tires!!!!!

Hadn't thought about the ESP angle. I had mine replaced (rears) at 40,585 miles. My Durango went 85,000 miles before I had them replaced, well into my second set of tires. I was surprised that I had to replace them so quickly. A good 2/3 of my driving is highway so I was expecting much more mileage than that! And I hadn't even had the trailer that long, or towed it very far before the brakes needed replacing. Oh, well. Its a jeep. Just Empty Every Pocket. Mine especially (see my bad gas thread).

I have an Unlimited X w/auto trans and I just had to replace my rear pads at 21,000 miles. :pissed: I do have larger wheels and tires but they are just stock Rubicon items. Jeep (and by extension, Chrysler) continues to disappoint me with their piss poor build quality.
