I just scored an OME HD lift for $300, but that's a post for later. When I was reinstalling the front endlinks my wrench made contact from the bottom bolt to the top bolt. POP, sparks! Yes, I have a rubi with the electric disconnect motor. Engaged or disengaged contact from the top bolt to the bottom bolt gets an ark. Anyone have any ideas??

I would say that you have a shorted wire on your disco... crimped somewhere?

If, by chance, it's still under warrenty, let it be the dealers problem.

Sounds like the power wire inside the disconnect motor is shorted to the motor housing. It could either be worn insulation or a water/mud/salt combo inside the motor housing. It could also be the harness rubbed against the housing and is shorted externally. If it were me, I would check the electrical connectors first to verify it if possible. My guess is that it's internal.

If you're brave, remove the rivets that hold on the connector to the housing and check the internal wiring. I think you have a good chance of saving it at this point. If you can fix it, you'll have to find a way to fasten the connector plate back on the motor housing and seal it up.

Another alternative is let it go until it's possible eventual failure.

You have to weigh the potential repair bill against your skills to determine whether to tear into it or not.

^ If it's not under warranty, and repair is over $500, you may also consider ditching the e-disco, and going to a manual system- get rid of some weight on the nose, reduce complexity, and make life a fair bit easier overall, perhaps? Mark W.

One of the main reasons I did not go with a rubicon.
