So, parents cant figure out what to get me, asked, I said "Jeep parts"

What set of lights should I get?
I want long range, reliable, tough, and as waterproof/resistant as possible.

I can add maybe another 100 myself, but more like 50.

Looking at Lightforce 170's, or the good ol' standby of KC daylighters. what say ye?

Deffintley any light force lights. YouTube lightforce they have a video of them hitting the lights with a bat and shooting them with a shotgun. I'll be pulling the trigger on a set here soon

I just picked up and installed a set of KC long range slimlites for my windshield. They're incredibly bright! Not terribly expensive either. Check out jeepswag. He's a vendor here and I think he's got the whole setup for $169 shipped. I'd definitely recommend them to anyone. :grinpimp:

From someone who has had several different kinds of lighting... Including lightforce, go with HID-x 7" hid's. The best, brightest light for your buck.
I sold my lightforce just to go back to my Hid-x's.

If I had to choose between halogen LF 170's (which I've had) or HIDx 7" lights? Go with the HIDx lights. LF make some nice lights. These are brighter - and you won't regret it. The pair will run around $250-300. But they beat out the LF lights. The only reason I'm back with my LF lights, is I'm currently running HIDs and will be upgrading them to 70w or 100w HIDs.

Decided on the Lightforce 170's, I figure they are so lightweight and tough they will last me as long as I need them to, and the HID upgrade is only 130 bucks.

Might try the 140's for windshield mounted later on.

One thing to remember about the lightforce hid upgrade is that its 130$ a light. So your looking at 260ish a pair. I made the mistake of ordering 2 thinking that I could do both sets of my 170's.

I have 170s on the WS. I think those are the perfect size. The big difference between the LF HIDs and HIDx is just the pain in the ass of dealing with external ballasts. I've also had some issues with 2 of the filters and how that's affecting the light. I bought white and yellow combo's in addition to the spots for the 270s & 240s.

After having internal ballasts, and now external ballasts on my LF HIDs, external ballasts blow. And other than these LF lights, I won't use an external ballast HID again.

Pro Comp lights from 4WD Hardware. Cheap!!! They are plenty bright and come with a lifetime warranty for another $10 (Unless $WD has stopped doing this). They are $29 for 100 watts. If you smash them into a rock or get whacked with a tree limb, who cares. 4WD replaces it. I use mine for deer lights while driving early morning and night. Lights up the road for at least 200 yards. Functional and cheap. I have been using mine for two years on an almost daily basis and no problems. If you want show, buy Lightforce but for ordinary daily use, you can't beat $60 and change.

The KC and Pro Comp lights look very similar. May be rebranded clones.

I may end up running them on my bumper, and relocate the 170's to windshield(more branches hit there)
Very happy with the 170's though, light up at least a half mile of freeway, and can take a quick swim through a creek no problemo.

I won't argue the costs. But while you talk about 200 yards. I'll talk about 500+ yards. LF costs an arm and a leg (compared to some brands). But they work, and they work well. Are they the best? I doubt it. But you have a lot of options with them that you don't get with different brands (different filters (which are so so at best), mag style focus, & the ability to easily change reflector size, as well as easily upgrade to HIDs). They're also damn near bullet proof.

Expensive? Yes. For show? I guess that depends on who use's them. But don't paint all LF user's as people who "want show". We just want good lights.
