My battery light came on last nite on the maiden voyage after a motor swap (still 3.8) ran the scanner and it came up as a over charge code. Any ideas where to start looking?

Start with a battery terminals and loose connection checks.

X3. Mine threw that same code after I forgot to tighten the battery terminals after doing some work to my Jeep.

well it was either the batt terminals which were tight but i cleaned them or my alt which was whining and getting really hot, new alt and cleaned terminals and its all good

depending on your year, there is a TSB on that. Calls for a flash to fix it. In case it comes back. Mine did it off and on for years. I just ignored it....
