My wife is more the point-n-shoot type, which is why I'm strongly considering a Canon S90 for her. It's about as close to a DSLR as you can get. Myself, though, I prefer a DSLR because of the control factor and the quality of images you can pull out of them. Usually much cleaner, especially when shooting at really low ISO settings.

I do have a problem shooting moving targets, though. Never have been able to get that quite right. And I originally bought my DSLR to capture pictures of my son. But he's definitely a moving target, so good shots of him are few and far between. This is about the best I've been able to get of him and I had to crop out quite a bit of background clutter.

I got my first long lens earlier this summer. I have become obsessed with shooting the deer that hang out behind the local Elks Lodge. These guys became pretty comfortable with me over the last few weeks.

FYI- I figured this was a good place to post. I signed up for the Scott Kelby Photowalk at the beginning of the month, and Adobe is a sponsor. So now I have a coupon code from Adobe for $200 off Lightroom 3. makes it $99. I already have LR3 so if anyone has been thinking of buying it and can use the code PM me.

Someone might as well use it instead of it going to waste.

Also, once you have it, any future upgrades will be cheaper since you only have to buy the upgrade rather than the whole program.

Just picked up a Canon 1DmkIV and haven't had a chance to get any shots with it, but here are a couple of shots of a buck in my back yard this past weekend. Shot with a Canon 1DmkII and 300 f4L.

I'm not usually behind the camera, but my wife is. I bought a Sony Alpha for her (her first DSLR) last year. She's managed some great shots here since:

It's hard NOT to get a good picture here and sometimes they are just great. Gotta love Hawaii!!

And here is one I took from the summit of Koko Head Crater. It's a 900' extreme stair-climb to the top. My wife isn't in that kinda shape yet. You can see Molokai and Maui in there.

I'm glad this thread is seeing some life. I love what other people can do with cameras! We are still learning. Took some yesterday down in Waikiki and they were terribly noisy. Found out that little "Auto" setting isn't always the best. It maxed out the ISO when it really shouldn't have. We'll get there, though.

Here IS one that turned out well. Sunset from Hale'iwa on the north shore toward Ka'ena Point.
