Speaking out of turn... I'd say no he didn't. He said he used 8ga wire and hopefully no one plugs something using 8ga wire into the power port that comes stock on a JK, or any other vehicle for that matter. You might let all the smoke out of the port and then it won't work.

yeah Michael is right on the money
mine is hardwired - inverters draw a lot of current so big cables and good connections are a must.
I routed an 8G wire under the carpet, up the trans console then up and out the foam filled hole behind the top right corner of the dash under the speaker panel straight to a fuse and the battery. Ground is an 8G run to one of the seat bolts.

Works great so far.
Used it for shop lights working on the bumper, laptop charger, stuff like that - nothing too big yet. Just nice to have it if I need/want it :mr-t:

ok, I'll try to grab a pic tonight after work
basically it runs through a big fuse holder for a car stereo amp he the cable has a ring terminal on it, the battery has a nice big attachment point on the terminal, I took the nut off, slipped the ring terminal over it and tightened it back down

Vehicle wiring is something I'm interested in as well, but have practically no experience doing... for those of you in the know, would you consider a "Wiring 101"-type technical write up for us wiring newbs? I'm sure it would be very helpful to more than just FzyPchs and myself, and it sure would be appreciated. Just a thought.

x2! My first electronic mod was when I did the DVD monitor hookup to the HU (it was intimidating at first, but the step by step write ups I read on how to do it made it very easy for me). Those are the kinda write ups I hope people will start posting here as well!

Probably one of the first should be on hooking up a relay to the stock fog light circuit.
If you want to upgrade your lights, the factory uses 35watt bulbs, most aftermarkets start at 55watts. BUT with our all knowing computer if you try to run a 55watt off of the stock circuit, it gets unhappy and shuts it down. So adding a relay is the only way to go.
If someone doesn't get to it first I'll try to do a basics of wiring thing and maybe a couple of specific deals.
I'm no guru by any stretch, but I've run a lot of wires and made a lot of crap work :bounce:

I'm waiting for my Rubi on order... I'm not sold on the MyGig but would like to install a GPS a la Garmin Trail Guide (GTG).

The brief web search conducted indicated that the GTG is only for Jeep up to 2006. Has anyone install the GTG in their 2007 or newer Jeep Wrangler, and does it fit aesthetically to the dashboard?
