I am looking for a simple (front) mid-to-full width bumper...one that doesn't weigh a ton or look like a sci-fi weapon (no offense meant and what not). So far the only one that I have found is the Olympic Rock Bumper, but it isn't much wider than a stubby...any suggestions? I have read most of the bumper threads on various forums and it seems like there are not too many no-frills bumpers being produced for the JK. I am trying to keep my JKU utilitarian; 1.5" coil lift, quick discos, 33" pizza cutters, Rohypnol, etc.

Pure Jeep has a no frills front and back. Rough Country has a couple no frills mids. Both are reasonably priced. I think Crawler Concepts has a decent mid that is worth checking out.

re: A plain jane bumper

I love my 26lb steel Expedition One Basic DX ......

GREAT customer support. Great pricing . I got the wings that bolt-on to the stubby and retain your JK foglights. That bar that my LED is on is not part of the ExpOne DX.

oh; if that isnt burly enough, Rusty's Off Road makes a stout , plain yet meaty front bumper for the JK....it is one of their better products for the JK line....here ya go....

I say check out the Poison Spyder Brawlers and the PSC BFH line. I know the PFH line you will have to do some trimming of the frame and the crossmemeber in the front but they are about no frills as it gets.

Here are some links to the bumpers:

BFH is also about as stubby as you can get, since he is looking for a mid to full with I would check outthe Brawler series like suggested..although i quickly swapped my brawler lite mid with for a BFH !

My fault Totally missed the part about the mid width. :shitstorm: So yea the Brawler would be more of a mid width where as the BFH is the stubbiest of stubby.

How is an aluminum bumper able to hold up to rocks pounding on it? Seems like it would gouge or take chunks out like my wheels do. Am I missing something?

i politely suggest you read Wikipedia or McMaster-Carr web about metallurgy , centering your seach on comparisons between 3/8th or 3/16th inch steel and the characteristics of 1/4" or 3/8th" 6061 or 7075 aluminum.....much tougher than your thinkin .....

Savvy offers a steel option if you didn't want the Al version. You will have to cut the frame like you would with the Poison Spyder BFH. It may be stubbier than you want. Try the Brawler bumper mentioned above , available in various widths and no cutting required.

This is true. You want simple, get an 3/8" thick I- beam or 2 or 3 inch sch. 40 pipe of 6061 and have an experienced aluminum welder weld in braces and needed attachments to it to fit the JK and then paint it black. If you're thinking about a winch in the future, have him weld in a winch plate. good luck.

Warrior?

I have a Warrior rock crawler bumper, no tube work.
This is the plainest full front bumper I found that didn't require any mods to the frame horns nor moving the vacuum pump.

Price wise, pretty cheap as well. Morris4x4 has one on sale in the clearance section - same one I have - for under ~$270 shipped.

The Warrior rockcrawler front full is no frills. http://www.warriorproducts.com/catalog-new/catalog/jeep/07-14-jeep-wrangler-jk/bumpers/rock-crawler-bumpers/
I have the rockcrawler full width, no tube, winch mount,w/shackle mounts (WAR596) and it can be found CHEAP. Warrior also offers it with no winch mount, tubes, no shackles, etc. to be about as plain as you want.

(I added hella projectors w/35W aftermarket superwhite halogen bulbs to the stock fog wiring - cheap, easy, and effective -and added back the plastic "skid" which isn't necessary and takes away clearance)

The others retain fog lights:
fullwidth, retain lights WAR599

midwidth, retain lights WAR598
