I will have to echo NE Wrangling almost word for word. I have had muscle cars and import cars. But really, after you ride a sport bike, no car can ever replace that exhilaration. Then I went through a truck stage in my life, all 4x4's. After I had a truck for a while I wondered why I ever wasted time on cars. When the JK came out or was coming out I wanted one. I was stationed in Okinawa at the time and started a savings plan at the New Car Sales but later cancelled it because I bought a Samurai. Bought the Samurai on Ebay while I was in Korea on Ebay. Had my friends pick it up and store it for me until I came back to the states about a year later. A few months after I bought the Sami the and had cancelled my order on a JK the New Car Sales got some JK's on their display lot. Now my wife was interested in one for herself. She was looking at the 4drs but I persuaded her towards the 2drs. When we got back to the states in 2007, I ended up getting a new Frontier. I had to get a truck because we had a 22 foot travel trailer we needed to be able to tow. And my wife got a new 2dr Sahara. Less than a year later I was going to Uwharrie so I traded my Fronty in on a 2008 JK X model 2dr. But don't worry little campers everything has come full circle and my wife no longer owns the 2dr 2007 Sahara, she traded it in for a 2008 4dr X model. So here we are again with the vehicles that "we are going to keep". I think my Jeep will be the first vehicle we keep for the length of it's payment booklet. Oh yeah I still have my Sami:D

With this being my 2nd wrangler, I can say the same thing everyone else is touting. The Wrangler JK offers all of the things that I wish I could have been able to afford as a young 20yr old. Booming sound system, hard top and soft top for best of both worlds and I can run over sh!t without having to worry about breaking plastic door molds. Easy to park and turning radius is awesome. Plus dirt + jeep = nice. Don't have to worry about washing the thing like my older sports cars. Go anywhere type of vehicle....

And of course, the jeep community.

So I'm wondering how you like your jk after these NE ice storms? Have you noticed the wipers won't defrost beause they're three inches lower than the heat on the glass? What good is trac-control when you can't see?How about the ice/snow on the rear bumper so you can't open the gate? And t-tops,what's the point as soon as it's nice the soft top goes on never once have i driven with them off. Yep we LOVE our jk4dr sahara,it's everything you should expect in a jeep, take a great idea and screw it up a bunch of little ways. On the other hand the heat roasts you like a baked potato! It's agood thing winter is short cuz everthing else makes up for the bad stuff. And the look on my one year olds face when the top goes down is PRICELESS!!

I had a CJ-7 roughly 20 years ago. It was a lot of fun. Loved having the roof off in the summer and looked forward to big snow storms in the winter. The problem... I've had a back back since the mid-eighty's (I'm 6'-5") The short wheel base and old leaf spring suspension was just too much for my back when it was "out" so I sold it for a Chevy 4x4 p/u and have driven a p/u since.
Fast forward.... so I see these 4 door Jeeps driving around and I'm thinking "hmmm, bet they ride a lot nicer than the old CJ!" Test drove one in the summer and I was hooked. Had to have one! :bounce:
Yah,it's a Jeep so you get a little wind noise at highway speed (but not nearly as bad as the CJ!!!!) the soft top leaks a little in the rain (but not NEARLY as bad as the CJ!!!) and the hood bounces a little at 70mph (but not NEARLY as bad as the CJ!!)

Now I'm back to having the roof off in the summer and looking forward to big snow storms. Lovin it!!! :thefinger:

Also looking forward to a lift and some taller tires... just not sure what size the budget will allow yet. :shaking:

love the jeep

i like the longer wheel base and the wider track. the lockers are a real plus. i can't believe all the aftermarket goodies available, even some through the local dealership. 44s front and rear are a definite plus. glad i punted my independent front end truck (07 ranger). the interior space is well needed. i am planning a trip to saskatchewan in april and it will be nice to comfortable with the family. a nice dry space for all the mx gear this year. the community is worldwide. i could go on and on...

An unlimited rubi with a lift and 37s is for me, perfect. I can get through most trails other than extreme rock crawling trails and can take it remote camping for days at a time. It really is the ultimate expedition vehicle.

I have a feeling I’ll never sell it and will just keep modding it as the years go by.

I like mine for this reason... I don't have to care about it... I mean this in a good way... yanked the carpet out, half doors so I dont bother locking it, it gets dirty, so what? It leaks, so what I have no carpet. It will go pretty much where I need it to and I am still stock.

I cant lie, I started to think about getting rid of it awhile back and then after a ride this past weekend... I am back in love, getting a lift finally and going to love it more. Now I cant wait for warm weather so I can rock the half doors for weeks at a time.

Always Loved the Jeep but...

In our family we had a few more peolpe than average - the small jeep was out of the question for any family guy. We had the old cherokee wagon working in the 70's and then when the big suburban came out it was the best thing going....towing, pulling, really whatever you wanted. I have always been a suburban/Yukon Xl Guy....but with a big love for the jeep.
Enough said, the new jeep came out that was 4 door and that was it! I spend more time jacking around with my jeep than anything....if you don't like f*&^king wiht your sh*T than dont buy a jeep. Top down, Top Off, Top Up, Doors On, Doors Off, etc....never ending fun! Never ends......cannot say enough about the the 4 door jeep.....the bomb ride!

Hahahaha...good reason. Unfortunately I haven't driven mine enough to find that out. Hopefully that will change soon though. :D

I like the versatility of the JK. Actually, all Wranglers are like that...no doors, half doors, full doors; hard top, soft top, bikini top, no top; etc. It's like driving a transformer. :smokin:

I like the JK Unlimited Rubi because...

Capibility! It also has things standard that the Xterra folks I ran with were paying $$$$ for over and above the cost of the rig. I.E. Solid Axle swaps, lockers etc.

Hey I like this whole thread!
I am actually planning on buying the 09' Sahara 2dr. at the end of March. I love that new orange color!
I have been all over several forums and found so many complaints about the jeep wranglers that it has caused a great deal of hesitation in purchasing! From DW death wobble... to it leaks all the time.... to bad manufacturing, missing bolts and rust... and dealership complaints!
I have checked the Toyota FJ forums and found similar complaints.... but far fewer!
I have checked the Honda element forums (yes I know... not comparable to a JEEP, but a very interesting vehicle for camping and traveling etc.) and guess what.... similar complaints but indeed far fewer of them!
As you can tell I like boxy multi-purpose vehicles! :)
But nowhere have I found the DEATH WOBBLE! except for JEEPS.
If this was happening to any other vehicle I am sure it would be a HUGE deal to the other manufacturers. MIght even hit the headlines in newspapers!
All except for JEEP.... why does the death wobble continue to plague these jeeps???
I have experienced a death wobble in a huge U-Haul truck one time after hitting a small bump at about 35 mph. scared the bee jeegers out of me!
So... now with so many complaints, DW... missing parts... missing bolts... rusting... and let me tell ya... when a forum has it's own threads just for complaints... this can be daunting to overcome.
I am now wondering... will I get the same problems as so many of these folks seem to point out to or complain about?
Which seems to raise a question??????
Is this just Chrysler? is it just JEEP? I am sure there must be an average of some sorts on defects or problems with....! After all some web sites say that the wrangler is below average in dependability.
I still want my Sahara in March... but I feel it is kinda like a crap shoot. I know there is no other vehicle like the wrangler... I respect that and I agree. But in order to get such a capable vehicle, do I have to put up with Death Wobble? Do I have to contend with missing bolts and parts?
I am not trying to hijack this thread... I loved reading all the positive comments (finally) Keep this going... I will stay tuned.. I want to read the good comments and good reports. I wish that Death Wobble thing would get taken care of!
Sincerely
Ralph Gould
Future Sahara in our driveway!

picnic42- I have never heard of death wobble being an issue of stock Jeeps. The problem comes from lifts and suspension components that either don't work in conjunction with one another or some type of failure in the installation/ adjustment process. Death wobble can be experienced on a modified jeep (bigger tires/ lift) but again, only when things wre not working correctly. DW should not be acceptable or expected when things are done correctly and/ or if the Jeep is stock.

ANY vehicle can have a bolt/ nut/ etc missing and that can easily be addressed by the dealership.

Good luck

Yeah, I've seen only 3 cases of DW on stock jeeps. What they don't mention most of the time is that they just ran a rock garden at Raush Creek, went mudding and have the air pressure at the max on the tires after cousin lou installed random parts that were left over or really cheap.

When you lift a vehicle it will happen if not dialed back in (alignment) correctly. I learned this first hand in my own DW incident after getting an economy BB. Also read "economy" lift, you pay less and get less bottom line. Most DW cases are not coming from full systems or fully adjustable kits but these budget boosts or economy systems. As a basic expectation you should realize these systems are economy in nature and lack certain characteristics and parts that allow you to truely realign your vehicle. This in turn will change your vehicles geometry. Personnally all my issues went away now that I've upgraded my lift to adjustable components. I've been able to dial it back to be more like stock and better.

All vehicles have issues. Do you want me to complain about my volkswagons, toyota's or GMC vehicles? I would of when I had them but very few poeple cared. How many people here have had a shimmy on any other vehicle? What did you do? I know I spent less time on the vehicle and could care less about it so I just drove to the tire place to have them do something.

What I have found is the Jeep community is more like a brethern of folks willing to help each other. This allows individuals to identify their problems only to look for suggestions within the large network. With the jeep I want to understand the cause and effect of what each noise and crackling sound. (IT'S FUN!!!!) Granted there have been issues, but nothing to bad.

All I can sum up with is people say, "it's a jeep thing" because it's unexplainable. It's just not a experience you encounter with another vehicle. For the first time in your life, you like your vehicle and want to tweak it to your own personality. Pimp it, lift it , hotrod it or just leave alone "it's a jeep thing" because it's a community willing to help you do this and laugh with you when you make mistakes.

P.S. Glad everyone liked the idea of the thread!!!

Great reply!
Just what I needed. It helps to know that the DW is not a prominent problem!
I just got on some threads that show so many problems... got me worried.
btw... where in Mass. are you? I used to live in Fall River. I will be traveling back up there in May to visit with my daughter and her family. I hope we will be in the new Sahara. :)
Thanks NE
Ralph
