I just had a Dakota Customs 6.4 with the 8 speed kit installed in my 2008 JKU. Dan was great , there were s few kit shortages that he fixed immediately(next day air shipping) . the 8 speed in the earlier JKs had some PCM issues , he had it fixed very quickly( got a new PCM shipped next day for a Saturday delivery) . Over all I'm super happy with the kit and the jeep it freaking rips. since i was spending money i also upgraded the axles. I went with the dynatrac serious performance kit. 44 up front and the 60 in the rear , 4:88 gears and ARB lockers. before you ask why not 60/60 combo, thats a huge jump in price. I spent $9k on my axles and reused my wheels, the 60/60 combo is $16/17K and then 5 new 8 lug rims.

In my experience the axles are more important than the power plant.
What did the engine/tranny cost you?
I did the total install kit witch included all the labor . The engine and transmission were brand new maps units that were provided by Dakota Customs. He has an in with a local dealership and gets them at a discounted rate . But I don’t have a number for you on the engine and transmission price.

Okay. There was literally no dollar amount in your response.
For me, I know if I ever needed V8 power in another jeep, I'd be better off to buy the $100,000 392 from the factory.

pair of 1350 drive shafts $1000
PSC Big bore box only $900
ARB twin compressor $600
SPOD $600
Total spent for the build just under $50K
I thought about the new 392 wrangler and you're correct $100,000 is about what you will spend. If you want to play you have to pay..

I have spend half that on my build and my jeep should be just a little but more capable than the new 392.

Is it running well now? Haven't heard from you in a while.
Serious question. I found most swaps had niggling issues that just never really stopped.
Owners just stop talking about them.
yup its still running great . No issues . I just upgraded to 37s and its getting better MPGs . so no complaints

I would concure with that. There is just so much to putting a V8 into a jeep with all the electrical and emmisions crap. My jeep does not need to go fast, my Porsche is for that ane you could pick up a nice Porsche for what people are dropping on a V8 swap. Actually the 4XE has roughly the same specs as the 392 and would be my choice if I were to ever get a new jeep, which is highly unlikely. That being said I am working on a engine swap in old green and it is not a V8
For me it was worth it . My jeep had been paid off for years and I really like it . I taught my son how to drive in it , taken it all over the place on family vacations , no way i would trade it or sell it. The price for a new 4xe or 392 are super high and by the time you add suspension , wheels & tires you could be well over the $100K mark . The 4xe are cool and stealthy quite when on all electric. The new 392 is pretty fast too and sound great. Mine will out perform both off road in and a straight line( not really the point for a jeep but man its fun) . The swap has been dead nuts reliable and im super happy with it . I had a local shop perform the install. They had it in and out pretty quickly so no real hassles . Yeah a 911 would be faster on a track and maybe to the next stop light . But a 392 Jk is a lot of fun for sure .

The hemi is physically large and quite a bit heavier than an lt engine and lower tech. It might integrate easier, cooling would be more challenging also with minimal real estate under the hood. I would hate to ruin my jeep with any poor conversion. Lots to think about with any of these 8 cylinder conversions.
The hemi is a large engine for sure . I was able to add some items under the hood , catch can, switch pro . I could have mounted the ARB dual compressor but chose to mount that in the spare jack area. I think the kits out now have solved the "cooling" issue with the hemi. I live on Oklahoma and the summers here are stupid hot. i have not had any cooling issue . the kit came with a JL fan and heavy duty radiator. I swapped in a 180 degree thermostat ( ran a 180 thermostat in the 3.8 too) . I can run the AC on full blast and the engine runs cool. I do agree that the newer LT engines are high speed and offer a packaging advantage. The only "concern" I might have with the hemi is the alternator location. Its low and not easy to access. i would prefer the 6.4 accessory drive off the 2500 ran instead of the car accessory drive. When it comes to selection of a kit and drive train I would not mix drinks , stay with one manufacturer. Go all mopar or all chevy . when it comes to any maintenance or trouble down the road you would have an easier time with troubleshooting and parts availability.

Out of curiosity does anyone have a measurement of the length of a 6.4 with an 8hp70 trans and some transfer case? Looking for front of accessory drive to output shaft of the transfer case ideally
I took a quick measurement from the front of the crank pulley to flange of the transfer case . It’s about 69 inches +/- and inch . I used a tape measure and just pulled it. I’ll try to drop a plum-bob and mark the floor with some tape to get a more accurate measurement.
