Hi all,

I'm considering replacing stock Goodyear SRA 255/75x17 with BF Goodrich 255/80x17 MT KM2. I really like the idea of the 3 ply nylon sidewall. My vehicle has the 3.8 liter V-6, not really powerful with AT and towing package. Will this combo have enough power to pull the heavier and larger outside diameter tires? I like the idea of tall and narrow for rocky West Texas trails.

They are a load range E. Is that going to make them too stiff for the JK? I also have a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado K1500 for which I'm considering the same tire. It is the only one I have found so far with nylon sidewalls. Most of my driving is on the highway, but when I go off road it is over sharp broken rock limestone trails - need the strong sidewalls.

Opinions may very, but unless you have a VERY heavily built and armored JK Load Range E tires will be overkill and you'll hate the ride because of how stiff the sidewalls are.

Even for the half ton Chevy I think I'd the same things apply. Sure you'll have s strong side wall, but are you willing to negatively compromise ride quality for something that may not be an issue.

You should be fine with just stand tire on either of your vehicles.
I was afraid of that might be the case. Nitto Trail Grappler - 255/75x16 load range C instead of E, 3 ply sidewall might be the ticket. Downside - a whopping $260 per tire unmounted at Discount Tire.
