Doubtful. It's probably tightly integrated in the main ECU system I'd venture to guess.
It's a federal safety mandate in all cars by 2013 model years IIRC. Most cars have had some form of this for several years anyhow, but usually only stored a few seconds of event data.
Hey, just be glad it's only a few seconds of data record so far.
How long until they put something into your vehicle to automatically contact the local authorities if you go 1 mph over the speed limit, etc. etc.
Cameras are already being set up in alot of towns, eventually you'll always be monitored.
*cue creepy conspiracy big brother music*
