How to fit '12/'13 Hardtops on older JK's

Not an "out-of-the-box" fit...but they will work.

There has been a lot of discussion, and some speculation, on whether or not a newer-style hardtop from a '12 or '13 JKU will fit on a '07-'11.

Tonight I bought a '12 hardtop from another forum member to fit on my '07 JKU. The hardtop itself fits great, however the newer style has four fitment pins instead of two like the older tops. The front pins on each side lined up with holes in the tub rail, but the back two did not. And even with the front pins in, the top sat about 1/4" too far forward.

Our fix:
The fitment pins on the hard top consist of a plastic pin that is threaded onto a threaded post. Unscrew all four plastic fitment pin covers. The two rear pins do not line up with holes on the tub rail, so grip the rear pins tightly with a pair of pliers and unscrew them from the top (you may need a pair of Vise-Grips).
The front threaded pins will now sit down in the hole and have enough clearance to line up the front torx bolts on the B-pillar.

Bolt down the top using the torx screws in the B-pillar and the six holes along the rail in the hardtop. Now throw on the Freedom panels, and enjoy the winter!

Did you install the "fit kit" that changes the trim piece on the windshield and moves the footman loop to the correct location?

Nope...not familiar with the "fit kit". Just modified what I outlined above and it fit great.

FYI - I did get the fit kit for my 13' I cannot say that it is entirely necessary - you just pull the footman loop of the windshield for sure. You might want to relocate it so that you have another latching point for the hardtop but the two brackets that the soft top clip too, seem to hold the freedom top in place just fine. (sorry about jumping in on your write up!)
