Its like watching magic!

In all seriousness most of working on your own vehicle is having a brain and not being afraid to get in there.

Myself and a fellow Wrangler owner are putting on a trail repair class to cover stuff like this for our local Jeep club just to help educate the ones that want to learn but haven't had anyone to show them.

On Edit:

As a Marine Vet I love watching your videos Doc... Like being back on active duty with the lingo!

Great video. How about the part where you pull the axle out? Anyone up for making a video of that? This would be a cool sticky I think, a thread of quick videos of how to trail repairs and minor maintanence projects.

Awesome video! You aren't doing it right unless you smack the camera or some smart ass standing near by with the BFH...

Now it's time to show "how install a locking diff with a pair of tweezers and some Big League Chew".

I think you left out the most important part. The part where you shit can the C's and throw on some circle clips. Easily the most common trail repair that everyone should know how to do.

For anyone doing this, I'd just like to add a few things(not to take away from a great how to video though!)

1) Probably uneccessary, but I like to mark the orientation of the shaft before disassembly just to be sure I don't get any vibrations post install. I think it's just good practice when replacing any u-joint.

2) When you install the second cap, if it doesn't go easily, don't force it. There's a chance a needle bearing fell out of place when installing one of the caps and it's laying between the trunion and cap.

3) Once you have all the caps installed with the clips in place, give the side of the yolk(long side of the shaft) a few solid raps with the hammer. This will seat the u-joint and release any stiffness in the joint. It'll help ensure longevity of the u-joint.

The last thing is just personal preference. I like to drive the new caps on using the socket just like you did in the removal process. Like a dumb-ass I've missed hitting the cap nice and squarely, thus deforming the cap. It's a great way to fuck up a brand new u-joint.

Great video though. I've never been any good at them.
