Rebuild of my 2008 Unlimited Rubicon

I have decided to do some major changes to my 2008 JK and thought I would do a past, present and future (kept up to date) write-up. This is the first Jeep Wrangler I have owned (had Cherokee in the past) and I absolutely LOVE it. The purpose for these modifications is to prepare to go to MOAB in 2012. I have never been and the Club (Northwest Arkansas Christian Crawlers) I belong to is going next year. I am passionate about my Jeep and pride myself in doing things right the first time. I will be doing all of the mod installs (except for custom cage, I do not know how to weld) with the help of some of the club members for some of the bigger items. Always good to have an extra set of hands.

I purchased my 2008 JK Unlimited Rubicon about 3 years ago from Mike who owns Street Customs in St. Louis, MO. It had the following upgrades when I purchased it.

Terra Flex 4” long arm suspension (Replaced with 6" springs)
Bushwhacker Pocket fender flares (Replaced)
Fab Four front bumper (Replaced)
Fab Four rear bumper (Replaced)
AEV hood
Tera Flex Front and rear driveshaft’s (Replaced)
18” Procomp 6001 series wheels (Replaced)
37’ MT Baja ATZ tires (Replaced with 38" Toyo MT)
Warn 9.0 RC winch
Volant cold air intake (Replaced)
Volant stainless exhaust (Replaced)
Wet Okle seat covers (Replaced)
Rear DVD Player (Removed)
Pioneer 7” flip out radio
Max Energy tuner (Removed)

Below is my current build list. I will adjust as things change.

They were easy for the most part. The Gas tank skid was a pain though. I think it was slighty bent/tweaked during shipping. I painted them with POR15 (2 coats) and then sprayed the visable side with paint to match flame red.

I have been back and forth on the complete skid system. No issues at full flex w the drive shaft? Also if you get into mud much having to remove it periodically to get the crud out.

Looks awesome....just curious...why is your passenger side flare bowing out by the headlight?

It's the same on both sides, and it is the fender, not the flare. It just looks like the left is out more than the right due to the angle of the picture.

I have taken it to the dealer asking about it (a good buddy of mine works there) and the body shop says it came from the factory that way. No way to adjust them in.

I have not had it in full flex yet. I do have other members of the club I am in (Northwest Arkansas Christian Crawlers) that have the same system and they have not had any issues that I am aware of.

Installed the KC Slimlights today

Did everything but wire them in. Waiting on the SPOD to get here before I wire them up. I love the way they look, and they will function well too.

Removed two winshield bolts on both sides and installed the KC Light brackets. Lights bolted right on and look great!

Coilovers

Now, all I need is a vendor that is willing to hook me up (Deep discount if possible, but free is a better word) with a Coilover system for the front and rear!

Easter Jeep Safari, here I come! I can't wait!!!!!

Nathan, build is looking good! Regarding the RR skids, no issues at any level of flex I've been to. You'd have to be in mud up to your motor mounts to get anything in the RR's as they have a lip that runs along the sides. I've had mine off and on several times straightening them and have never had anything on top of the skids. I would highly recommend getting the oil drain extension thingy they sell, otherwise you'll have one heck of a mess with oil running along the whole thing.
Only knock on them is they are 3/16, and if you drop your rig on them much you'll bend them. They are great for sliding over stuff, but don't seem to enjoy direct hits. I just replaced my RR oil pan and tranny skids with 1/4 RSF skids to eliminate that issue.

SPOD Install

I installed the SPOD this week and I have to say it was an absolute breeze. They provide some of the best directions I have ever seen. This thing is a work of art. Connecting my compressor and my windshield lights was a breeze. The wiring connections were very easy and it makes the engine compartment very clean. Thanks for making a wonderful product!

Bravo SPOD, Bravo!!!!

Kilby OBA install

Finished installing the Kilby OBA system this weekend. I purchased the install kits from Kilby and then ordered a remanufactured York compressor off EBay. Waiting for the top fittings to deliver and I will be done plumbing it all up. The bracket kit from Kilby works wonderful and is very clean. The instructions need some work, but overall it is a clean install.

added an item to the build list today

Added item to the build list, can you find it?

Thanks to Phil Norvald at Max-Bilt and Ross at Ripp.

Phil - You have been awesome with helping on this build. Appreciate your high level of customer service and support. Wish I would have known earlier that I could have ordered more (pretty much everything on my list) than just the console from you!
