Winch install with Olympic Smuggler Bumper

I was having a heck of a time finding a winch that would simply mount right into my Smuggler Bumper. I ordered a SuperWinch that I thought would work but the control box wouldn't come off. I used that guy on the front and repurposed the Taiwanese 12k winch I bought online previously. It was a task but here are the highlights and some pics.

1. I had to order 4 AWG wire online (I've since found it as low as $52/100 ft). There were no auto parts stores that stocked this stuff in sufficient lengths.

2. I picked up terminal connectors from the local car stereo installers that I like to use. Again, no local store had connectors available for 4 ga wire. I found some at Ace that were $10 for 2 connectors, the car stereo place sold them to me for a buck a piece.

3. I found plenty of space behind the turn signal to mount the box (actually, I just set it in there, I don't think it will be a problem).

4. I cut a hole in the sheet metal to mount the unit the controller plugs into.

Here's some photos.

Looks like it could be adjusted to hold any tire. How does the back tailgate door work with that setup?

TBlagdon: yeah, I'm keeping the bumper. Olympic is sending me the new tire swing. I would have probably bought the MD Customs Switchblade if I had known about it before I bought this one but I really like the bumper (just not the swing).

4x4x4: There is no need to adjust anything for tire size. It is big enough to get well into the 40" range. I think they advertise 42" or something like that. There are more photos of the swing in the dirty laundry thread if you want to see them. This write up was just for the winch install.

Cheers,
Jason
