Rutdigger: Front Flat Fenders

After my lift install and 35" tire addition I had a slight rubbing issue at full flex, so I decided I wanted flat fenders. As usuall I didn't want to pay the cost for the Bushwackers so decided to make my own.

I cut the template out of the paper and transferred it to the foam board..then to the metal. This piece will be the inside of the fender that the rails are welded to:

Then I bent the tubing to the basic shape of the stock fenders. This is when I realized that nothing on the friggin JK is straight..lol.

Welded to template:

Made the other side to match and began to add supports:

Wrapped in painters tape and cut out sheet metal template:

Transfered cutout to sheet metal and cut it out:

Very nice work, are they gusseted to more than just the paper thin fenders? Just concerned you'll really mangle the fenders if they contact...anything..

Yes, they are attached to the body with threaded rod couplers. I cut each coupler to lenght and welded to the body frame under the fenders. Then I screwed the bolts into the couplers. I think they will hold up great, one day I will probably find out..lol.

You da man! I like building instead of buying, but you're crazy good.

Love the fenders. I'd better get mine going at some point.

Thanks everyone! I took a little break to finish my degree and do some other work. Now, I'm back at the Jeep projects. More to come soon! Rear deck storage box, deck basket, rook rack, finish my tube doors, safari strap net with sun shade, delta light bar look alike..etc, etc..Oh..they took about a week to build and I have about 80-100 bucks in them I guess..
