Thumbs up budget offroad air install

Don't know if anyone else suffers from LOTS OF IDEAS but NO EXTRA $$$ IN BUDGET like I do but here we go.
I needed a way to air up after at the end of wheeling and did not have the CASH to drop a couple of BILLS on a air system with reserve tank and I am tired of waiting for the low end air comp to cool off between tires.
I have always had a descent sized power inverter in my jeep and decided to put it to use. I bought a small 120 volt compressor with 3 gallon tank and took it all apart. I mounted the compressor under the rear deck lid i made and hooked it up to the invertor. i bought a small OXYGEN TANK from a health care provider that was not able to be in service anymore for $10. The tank is 24" tall and 4.5" diameter. A few copper pieces and a couple of hose incerts and I have a offroad air system that will maintain 100 psi, remain cool, and air up my tires for under $75!!!
I will post pics later this week. with more details.

Cool idea! I've been thinking about going this route as well as I can get OOS cylinders for free. I am looking forward to your write up!

^^^^^^^ I would think the cost of an inverter that would handle that load would be cost prohibitive. If you have the parts lying around maybe but once you add up all of what he was talking you might as well buy a readymade 12v compressor.

That would be a big ass inverter. I don't really think this is possible.

The idea worked for a while, but the compressor being mounted upside down was not the best idea I have ever had. I had an 800 watt inverter laying around and it pulled it with. O issues.
I know I could buy a compressor, but what fun would that be.... My project this winter is to try and put a 80's model square ford AC compressor(yes laying around) that is an easy mod to turn Into an air compressor that I will see if I can work. First step it to see if I can get rid of the V belt clutch.....
Prob not a good idea, but what the heck.
