Smittybilt G.E.A.R. Trail Shade Review

I was able to take my new Smittybilt G.E.A.R. Trail Shade out this weekend and put it to the ultimate test...the beach!

When I initially saw the shade I was intrigued but unsure of attaching it to the spare tire and blocking my use of the trunk/bed of my JK. So? I ordered one up and decided to do some experimenting for myself.

When the Trail Shade arrived I was excited to set it up so I did an initial test run and was impressed with the overall quality of the poles, the tethering cords, and the transport pack.

The poles are collapsible and are held together by an internal bungee system which makes tear down and storage a breeze. The cords are thick and green, like the shade itself, and have a wooden block which makes them a snap to attach to the two stakes that are included.

The shade itself looks like a parachute and is nice and rugged. It is completely detachable from the straps that you use to attach it to whatever it is that you decide to tether from. This makes relocation very simple. I used my back window, instead of the spare and the straps are 7' 6" long and will go around the back roll bars on both the 2 door and 4 door JK if you have a soft top or no top.

The stakes are small but they worked in wet and dry sand and only pulled out when I kicked it because I wasn't watching where I was stumbling.

Here are some pictures! I hope you enjoy the pictures and this helps clear up some questions about the Trail Shade!

I am running a 10% off special on the Trail Shade this month over on the website! If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask!

I'd like to see your pictures if you've got one too!
