New SPAL Fan Shroud! Install

For those of you who have been having trouble with your stock cooling fan, The SPAL electric fan is a incredible choice for replacement. The only down side has been that you had to cut your factory shroud up to do it.
Well, Universal Parts has come up with a solution. A replacement shroud!
They sell them as set with the fan already installed or, like me, seperately for those who already have the SPAL fan.

Here is a pic of the new shroud. It's all aluminum and puts the fan much closer to the radiator for those of you with a Hemi conversion.

They did a lot of thinking when designing this. it holds the coolant overflow jug just like the stock, and has rubber flaps that push open at highway speeds(when the fan is not on) and pull shut when the fan is working.

Instead of using the 4 mounts that you use with the stock shroud, it uses spacers so that all 8 mounting points on the fan are used.

Here is a pic of the fan mounted on the shroud.

everything sits flush and you don't have the gap like you do when mounting to the stock shroud like you see in the pic below.

Here are some pics of it all mounted up from their site.

I've gotta say, I'm really impressed with this setup.
They are also in the process of becoming a vendor on here.
Ryan at Universal Parts is the one I dealt with. He's a really cool guy.
Here is a link to the fan and shroud combo. You can also get the shroud seperately if you already have a SPAL.

Hope you guys like it!

That's some good thinking... I like the flaps that open and close, great idea. Thanks joker for the post. When my fan goes, I'll be installing the spal fan and getting this shroud

The $299 is both and is already installed together for ease of installation.

How much for just the shroud?
299 is a bit steep IMO

Yes, but there's just something about him. Something around the eyes, I don't know, reminds me of... me. No. I'm sure of it, I hate him.

If my fan hasn't died, is there a good reason to upgrade to the SPAL?

Yeah,
The fact that it will die if you go in water deep enough to touch it LOL
I have gone through 3 now and I think Tkob is on number 63 or something

Oh and Oz, 90 bucks is not too bad....
although they sell the fan for 114 and the shroud for 90....wheres the other 95 bucks come from?

It cools MUCH better than stock, therefore better for the engine.
Also is waterproof, unlike the factory fan that has holes in it.

With the factory fan, it's not IF it fails, it's WHEN.

That's what I was thinking. I'd bet the fan works better with this shroud then with the cut up factory shroud too.

Do you know if they figured out how to make the spal fan compatable with the factory high and low fan speeds? I know that is one of the issues people brought up before

there is NO issue, it works on low and high, it is controlled by how much voltage is getting to the motor

Talked with Ryan and the fan is $115, and the shroud is $170.

Tellico 4x4 is advertising SPAL part number RS5200 for $245.95

Mentioned this to Ryan and he was not able / willing to price match.

Enjoying life!

I just ordered my fan and shroud from Tellico 4x4 for $268.60 shipped.

They have a 5% discount code. I do not have the code and the guy said it was for the "regular jeep forum" whatever that is I have no idea. Anyway, he was cool and gave me the 5% discount.

Just wanted to pass this on to everyone.

Enjoying life!
