wheel spacers and torque wrench question

So I was installing new spidertrax spacers today and since recently reading a few threads about properly torqueing down lugnuts, i figured it would be a good time to start. I gotta say im really surpised and a bit concerned how "not tight" the 90 ft/lbs felt compared to how it feels when i usually just crank them down tight as i can. It just doesnt "seem" like they are tight enough... anyone else ever have that impression, only to find they are fine?

Secondly, the spidertrax instructions say to check the spacer lugs torque at 50 miles after installing. Round trip to work and back gives me about 70 or 80 miles, would it be ok to check after work? Thankss

As long as your torque wrench is remotely calibrated, there is nothing wrong with 90ft/lb. "As hard as you can" is a great way to stretch the threads and promote failure. I personally use 95ft/lb and I also step torque spacers back on. (tighten all by hand, all @20ft/lb, all at 60ft/lb, all at 95ft/lb).

If you loctited the threads, "rechecking them" will probably just break that loctite, but rechecking is recommended with new spacers.

Hey thanks... guess I was just surprised at what 90 lbs actually felt like. Guess I was crankin the shit out of em before.... So if I check them does that mean I gotta pull them off and apply more loctite?

That sort of defeats the purpose to me, but I suppose that is what I would do. Remove them one at a time and reapply.

I've never used loctite on my spacers

I have blue loctite on mine and will not be retorqing them. Otherwise I shouldn't have loctited them.

Come to think of it the instructions said to torque them to 90 and recheck with the wrench set to 80, if the lugs move set at 80 then you need to reinstall loctite. I guess if they dont move at 80, then the loctite wouldnt be affected....
