BFGoodrich All Terrain T/A KO2

The all new BFG T/A KO2 is coming.. (First sizes should hit our inventory Nov. 2014)

We had a chance to test the tire in Baja Mexico for a few days early last week. Before we share our experience, we want to hear your initial thoughts. Here's a few quick pics, what do you think?

I'm really excited about the KO2s - I'm strongly leaning towards them being my next set (as long as they offer 35's as a Load Range D). From what I can see and from what I know about advances in tire technology, they should be a big improvement over the current KOs - but I'll reserve judgement until I can read some professional reviews and comparison tests. The KOs were disappointing in Overland Journal's recent all-terrain tire comparison test, so I'm hoping the KO2s leapfrog the winners.

Are they still Severe Service Rated? If so, they may become my next winter tires.

I think they will be a good, popular tire.

My cousin has always been a big fan of the BFG All Terrain KOs. One of the main reason is that he says they don't look like a standard tread. They are distinctly a "truck" tread, vs. a "car" tread pattern. Many tires out there are more aggressive, and possibly a more "modern" tread style, but he says they just look like a beefed up "car" tread patterns.

I don't know how popular that reason is for liking them (maybe that idea is what draws people to them, even if they don't reason it out that way). The new tire side tread blocks are leaning a bit more towards the "standard" tire tread block design, but overall, they keep the iconic look. I like the new tire, and they will be in the running if I'm in the market for an AT tire in the future.

Your lift is fine but the factory wheels are on the narrow side and have a high offset/backspace for 35x12.50R-17's. We recommend an 8.5" to 9" wide wheel with around 4.5" of backspace for this application.

UPDATE:

BFG will release their new All-Terrain T/A KO2 in two phases. Phase one(1) is scheduled for November 2014
and phase two(2) is scheduled for March and April 2015.

In other news, BFG dropped a new All-Terrain T/A KO2 tire from 10,000 feet and drove away on it.
Guess the spot on Playground Earth it hit and you could win a set for yourself.

Oh man, that video cracks me up. My favorite part is "don't try this at home." Aw dang, I was just about to try dropping my tires from a plane at 10,000 feet to see if they held up. These days you never know I guess, but I still chuckled.

Mostly because I'm a bit of a nerd, but I'd like to see calculations of whether impact force from the tire and rim alone hitting the ground at terminal velocity (what is terminal velocity for that tire/rim I wonder) would be similar or less/more severe than hitting a pothole at 70 MPH with a couple tons of vehicle on top.

I like the tires and am recommending my cousin get them for his truck, but I just think it's a funny video. Don't get me wrong, it's good marketing, the video was cool to watch whether it proves anything or not.

I was wondering the same thing actually. I'm no math wiz but maybe someone will chime in with some calculations.

The 34/1050 R 17 looks an interesting tall narrow option. Perfect for the sort of long distance expedition trips I love. Hope I can get a set early/mid 2015, off to the Sahara later in the year.......
