I'm new. And I have an issue

Hey everyone, I'm Josh from Washington State. I recently bought a 2008 JK unlimited Sahara MT, and my key fob is acting strange. After a couple days of not touching it, I go out to start it up, but the unlock button will not remotely unlock the doors. When I put the actual key in the door to unlock it manually, the alarm is triggered once the door opens. Can anyone help explain this? The battery in the fob is dead I'm assuming, but why is the jeep no longer recognizing the fob? I have never experienced this with other cars I have owned.
Thanks!

When you lock the door remotely with the fob, the security system is armed.
When you unlock the door remotely with the fob, the security system is disarmed.

Unlocking the door manually with the key does not disarm the security system.

The sensor for the Sentry key fob reader is in the column. Unless the chip in the key fob is close enough to sensor, it wonít recognize you as the owner.

Itís stock!

change battery in the fob annually is what I've done since 2011.
