Newb here in NC

New to Jeep, old to off road Ret Army guy here starting my LCG build. After beating the snot out of my 89 Trooper, I knew I needed a JKU and love this thing! I moved from Ft. Huachuca, AZ area that has great off roading to Summerfield NC with no off roading in my area at all so I've been reduced to mall crawler status until I can find a good job in a better off road area. I understand Mt. URI has an off road park a couple hours away, can't wait to go check it out.

One beef with this amazing Jeep, the manual trans sounds like crap! In 4 low climbing steep hills and shifting the thing sounds like the transfer case is going to fall out of the damn thing and when driving around in 2 hi in mall crawl mode the trans sounds like a bunch of broken metal pieces are rattling around inside. I've only owned manual trans vehicles my whole life but for the first time I wish I would've ordered the auto trans, I understand this has been a known issue with this manual trans since its inception, and die hard jeep people just except this and deal with it. Really Jeep, you can do better about this issue other than offer a buy back that I am going through right now, so I guess I'm forced to settle for a 2016 with an auto, I can't get it in Anvil and they want me to pay the differance between the 15 and 16 and pay the $1,350 for a trans that I have to settle with! That's crap! But this thing is such an amazing vehicle that I still love the JKU, sorry for the rant specially as a noob.

I understand they shut down during the winter and I can't put any more trail rash on this JKU until Jeep completes the buy back deal putting me in the replacement 2016 JKU so I guess I'll just have to wait for now for Jeep crawling but I do have a pre runner turbo desert rail that needs its legs stretched out, does that place have fast trails as well? I'd hate to have to not be able to use it until I get back to AZ lol
