Question Japan Jeeper...

Hi, my name is adam and i have a 2008 Wrangler X Auto softtop. So far, i have a RE 3.5" super flex lift, bilstein 5100 shocks, 35" Duratrac tires, Liquid Metal Rhino Black Wheels 17x9, Airaid Intake, Flowmaster 40 Series Muffler, KC's on Windshield mounts and somewhat swingaway tire carrier. have D30 fron and D44 rear w/ 3.73. Next step in sight- XRC Stubby Bumper W/ XRC8 Winch with Synth rope, Bushwacker Flatty Fender flares, 5.13 Gears with possible locker(s)?? and would like a real rear bumper/tire carrier. but we will see. This brings me to a question. Is it a good idea to go 5.13 gears and would you do a locker front and rear, rear only or posi's, and then how hard is it to swap myself. i am a good mechanic and have access to an auto hobbie shop, but havent tampered with diffs yet. would love to, but dont want to screw it up if it is real intricate.. now, i wheel here in japan, but dont do anything too hard core. the usual trail ride, lifgt crawling and the occasional mud puddle. What do i need and what do i just want. trying to squeeze the most out of 3k... any advice would be great.. Thanks..

Welcome to JKO.

Lockers are only needed if you are in an area that will require them. For where I am in Maryland there is really no need for lockers around here. Thus bringing me to my next point Front and Rear or just Rear. Again it will depend if they are needed depending on what type of off-roading you are trying to do. If you can provide more info then I can better answer your question.

Again welcome and post some Japan Off Road Pics

Japan Jeeper

Well, thaks everyone for the welcome and the advice. i dont read japanese though. maybe just before i leave here i will probably learn. anyway, the kind of wheelin i do isnt really hard core or anything(havent found the right spot yet) but the deep mud hole, dirt hill or beach run. there is a little rock crawlin if you know where to go, but nothing i think will warrant lockers front and back. i am fairly sure i dont need locker in the back, but i am doing the gears, so i might as well go ahead and do it, since i know i will eventually. think i can get away with the loker out back and the True Trac up front. we will see how that does me for now. Thanks again for the help and all.

Jeepin Japan

The landscape is awesome. Not too many jeeps here though. They wheel Jimny's, which are pretty much like old samuri's only more narrow. i do feel like i could flex check on most of the cars around here. but it is pretty cool. havent found any parts here, order from AZ mostly. Thats why i dont have more parts, some of it goes to shipping... anyway, looking forwars to hearing from and chatting with a lot of you. have many questions. had three wranglers, but due to lack of availability, will be doing most of the work myself....

Welcome

Welcome to JKO. I've spent countless nights going through all the posts here to figure what and how to do stuff to my "Connie". There's lots of knowledge here so all you gotta do is ask or search.

First off, welcome to JKO. As far as the lockers go, its always cheaper to install them during a re-gear simply cause you are already in there. So if you can swing the $$$ I say get them and you'll have em if you ever need them.
