Hello, another CO owner...I'm in Aurora.
Me: I'm new to the Jeep world, but not to the wheeling world. I've built and wheeled a few HUMMERS over the past 7 years. I've been in the off road industry for a few years part time and worked full time for GOBI Racks for a while also...still do projects with them. The owners are great people. This was my second atempt at buying a Jeep. The last one fell through a while back. This time, however, the numbers worked, and I was ready to start another project.
Some people may look at this as another "he ditched HUMMER and went to Jeep." While I think the HUMMER vs Jeep thing in rediculous, I wheel with all kinds of rigs. ...some of you from here. I appreicate any rig that someone puts their efforts into. I still plan to buy another H2 in the near future as the Jeep won;t be my DD.
For now, I'm having fun with this ride, just getting used to the differnece in power from what I;m used to....and the feel of the solid axle vs IFS. ...looking forward to getting it built and ready for EJS and the week after EJS with the HUMMER group I run with. yep, 12 days straight in Moab.
My 2 week old 2010 4door Rubicon build is starting next week. Although this build isn't going to be as advanced as some of the very nice rigs here, I'm looking forward to building a capable rig that can handle most of Moab.
I'm working with Steve @ 4 Wheel parts to put the 3" Teraflex lift/ flex arms with 35's, Rancho sterering stabilizer, front adj. tack bar and C gussets.
Also, I putting the GOBI rack/ ladder, Rigid Industry LED lighting, and putting the Katzkin leather w/ heated seats in as well. I have to have my leather w/ heated seats. I know some think it;s a useless mod, I pthink it;s great for cleaning up after a weekend camping and esp. dog hair.
I also have to figure something out for that low hanging evap. also. Debating on the woods kit or running down to NAPA and just buying the parts. I plan to run the stock wheels with spacers for now...unless someone needs a set of 300 mile wheels and tires. I could ship from 4 wheel parts to wherever. When I did my H3 build, I did that and sent all five to TX for about $100.
That's about all I have time for before Moab. I was hoping to do bumpers, sliders, and skids before hand, but that;s about all I can do until end of April. I am concerned to put the spare on that bag door without wrecking it. It looks too thin to hold that 35" MT and would more than likley kill it if I hooked the tire on a ledge? thoughts on this?
I/m hoping a Teraflex owner will also chime in on what they did for that kit....anything I should have added to that list for susp. Gearing and driveshafts won;t happen immediately, but I did order up the Procal today.
...hope to meet up with some of you in Moab or around here before the trip. Anyone up for an install party? LOL
If you do want to hook up at EJS or the week after to run with the HUMMER group, let me know. There will be a couple Jeeps, FJ, and others.
