New Owner in MD

Hey guys,

Been posting a bit and lurking a bunch doing research to buy a JK. Former TJ owner who now has a family on the way...perfect excuse for a JK unlimited. I just bought this one...'07 with 40k on it. Auto, 4.10 gears, towing package. Looks like it's got about a 1 inch body lift, XHD stubby front bumper, and 33 by 12.5 mickey tompson MTZs on 17 inch procomp wheels. It also has a gibson dual exhaust (pretty sure it's just axle back).

I got a great deal, but will likely need to change a few things... lookin fer advice. Tires...MTZ are too noisy, thinking of AT tires. Any recommendations? I have defaulted to BFG AT on past Jeeps and liked them, but keeping an open mind. Exhaust...also WAY too noisy. Love the look of it, but would like to quiet it down some. Doesn't need to be stock quiet, but definitely more quiet.... should I just have a local muffler shop weld in an extra resonator? What's the pipe diameter of a stock exhaust? Any ideas?

Thanks again for a great forum!

Greg

Thanks, man. If you notice, I photoshopped the mopar rock sliders black.... whoever the previous owner was had the painted RED. Terrible. I'm taking delivery tomorrow and will be painting them flat black. Any ideas on tires/exhaust? Thanks!

Welcome to jkowners.

The stock exhaust pipe diameter is I believe 2 1/2".

I have seen some pretty good reviews on the Cooper A/T tires (Discoverer ?), the Dick Cepek F-C II's, Nitto Tera Grapplers, the Micky Thompson ATZ, and the Yokohama Geolander A/T's.

The only A/T tires that I have run on a Jeep were the BFG T/A's on a 2004 Wrangler....with good overall results.

Poly Performance - Dynatrac - Currie - Goodyear - Poison Spyder - Warn - PSC - AEV - Reid Racing - Off-Road Evolution - Flowmaster - Delta - Riddler - Micky Thompson - Daystar - Skid Row - Uniden - Rebel Offroad - Firestik - Warrior Products - Viair - HiLift - ARB - Kicker - Infinity

Welcome to JKO.

What's with the black line going down the rocker. Looks like someone hiding something using MS Paint.

*EDIT*

Nevermind. Re-read and saw the answer. I think someone else on the forum was looking at that Jeep. Maybe it was you.

Welcome and congrats! Can't go wrong with BFG At's, though if you run any mud, give the Goodyear MTR's with Kevlar a look--not as quiet as AT's, but better than MT's, as long as you mount them white wall out.

Welcome, I'm in MD too.

I like the JBA exhaust on my JK. It's not to loud, it's mainly just a tone change more than anything, a little deeper at idle but not loud at all. It's just an axle back, and I'm 99% sure the piping is 2 1/2".

Yeah I remember you posting before you bought this Jeep. That red did look bad, but since you said that you'll take care of that we'll let you slide. Congrats

Thanks guys. This forum is great. Already have several folks interested in my wheels/tires and figured out that I can fit soft 8's with 4" backspacing. This is a real one-stop shop.
