Good deal? 07 Unlimited Saraha with 4.10 auto

Hey Guys,

Not sure if I should post this here, but figured I would catch less flack than the tech forum. I'm a former TJ guy and have a kid on the way, so it's time for the unlimited! I found this deal and took a test drive. I was pretty impressed with the way these ride with the extra wheelbase. Engine, brakes, tranny all seemed fine with just 34K on it. Only concern was a bit of rust bleeding through on the door hinges (very minute) and no some of the windshield Torx screws (not on the paint). Is this a normal thing? I searched and couldn't find any answers. Also, they claim it has 4.10 gears due to a 'towing package'. It has an OEM trailerhitch with all the wiring. Is this correct or are they trying to sell me 3.73s as 4.10. This matters to me as I will likely be putting 35's on it in the near future. Any help you can offer would be great!

Thanks,
Greg

I have a 2007 Sahara. If I remember correctly, when ordering I had to specify that I wanted 4:10 gears with the tow package.
Oh, and welcome.

In 2007 the tow package was 4.1 gears. It's now 3.73

It's already been said but since I'm typing anyway, yes the 07's with towing package had 4.10's. At least I know the Unlimiteds did, not certain on the 2 doors.

I don't think anyone answered your rust question though. In my experience a very small amount of rust around the screw heads on the hinges (door and/or hood) and even more often around the screw heads on the windshield brackets is normal. Of course mine is white so the spots show better than they may against other body colors. In two and a half years they have remained only small rings of rust stain, with no "drip stains" or rust blooms or any sign of getting any worse. I've heard of people going back to the dealer on this and having things replaced, but it's so minor that I haven't bothered with it. Hope that helps you to make your decision!

Thanks guys, I think I'm going to jump on this if I can get them down a bit on price. Seems like the right one for me. Another thing I was surprised by, how quiet the soft tops are on these new unlimiteds! It was so much quieter than the top on my TJ.

Also just noticed my dyslexic thread title...woops. Saraha!

I lost you at "I'm not sure I should post this here" but Welcome to JKO anyway Greg

Well not really, congrats on the bun in the oven, yeah rust on the hinges is normal but not acceptable, and 4:10 is possible for 2007 and maybe early 2008 w/tow package....

The only reason I said that was because some forums are pretty picky about where certain topics get posted, and I hadn't surfed the site enough to know if a better section existed. That's the kind of paranoia you get from being in too many Audi forums. Now that I've been bumming around this site for a couple weeks I'm not so worried...cool, laid back forum. I didn't buy the rusty hinge jeep. Still looking....
